The Scene
Before branching out on her own in 1999, Frenchwoman-turned-Harlemite Catherine Malandrino was design director for Diane Von Furstenberg. And, indeed, Malandrino's small, blindingly white, overly-mirrored Soho shop seems an import from the disco era, Von Furstenberg's heyday. Downtown ladies swarm to Catherine for party dresses sprinkled with sequins and groovy patterns, but everything else is for sale at this lofty spot--including the furniture and even the artwork that rotates with each season.
The Goods
Malandrino specializes in the trashy-trendy sexpot look coveted by second-rate pop stars and Hilton sisters-type socialites. The shop is inevitably crammed with low-cut leather pants in primary colors and expansively draped disco blouses. Flirty party frocks hang beside leather side-laced pants and chunky handknit sweaters held together by huge kilt pins. Stop in on your way to Ibiza, sweetie.

love the pieces from store but terrible customer service; bought a top and had to return to store for repair the second day i bought it. was promised to be ready in 3 days yet waited almost 2 weeks with multiple phone calls to follow up...

I was a long-time customer until this fall. I bought a very expensive pair of leather pants ($1000+) at the store and they offered to hem them for me. Unfortunately, their tailor cut the pants off without hemming and ruined the pants. I could have recovered from that except it has taken me 6 weeks and about 20 phone calls to get a refund. The store manager never returned my calls and I finally had to escalate the problem to the Catherine corporate offices. I'll never shop there again.
