Delicious. My boyfriend surprised me with a romantic birthday dinner here--it definitely lived up to the hype. It is on of those places you feel like you must go to at some point as a New Yorker, but it was a laid-back environment that put the spotlight on great food--many courses of delicious sushi and other entrees. The crab entree is especially memorable. What a treat!
Best Suchi.
I always have the most amazing food here! The prices are a bit high, but its worth the money for the food quality and the ambiance!
I LOVE NOBU
Yum!!!!. I've been to Nobu twice; once in the Bahamas and then in NYC (I know, you would think I would have done it the other way around). I must say that Nobu is the best sushi I have ever tasted. I've never had sashimi that just melted on my tongue into my belly until I visited Nobu. Their black cod was AMAZING! I can't wait for my next trip there!
Deplorable food for such a well established name. I want to start this by saying I am not a native New Yorker, I was merely in town on vacation, and I feel that I have developed a strong sense of good Asian cuisine. That said, I was very disappointed with the quality of food at Nobu Next Door. Our maki was very meger (think diameter), our nigiri was woefully thin and 'fishy' tasting/smelling, and my hot meal, what they called 'squid pasta' was just rubbery over-cooked squid chunks drowning in soy sauce tossed with wilted asparagus. A friend of mine had the Beef Toban Yaki and what was a $32 meat dish looked more like a $5 fajita platter at your local Mexican restaurant. Having spent the day in Chinatown I have to say my $5.25 bowl of Pho at Bo Ky was hands down better than our $100 meal at Nobu Next Door. If this is any indication of what the food at Nobu is like, you can count on me to stay far away from it's doors.
One of the best dining experiences in New York.
I have been to lots of great restaurants but Nobu by far exceeded any previous dining experience with the exception of perhaps Phillipe Chow and Mr. Chow. The food was decadent, the portions generous, the service impeccable. Our server was attentive, friendly, and extremely helpful. We ended up loving every suggestion that he offered. I highly recommend the Pineapple Martini- delicious!! I've read reviews where people said that it's hard to get a reservation, but when I called the reservationist was friendly and accommodating. I went for my birthday on a Monday night and it wasn't too crowded so your best bet may be earlier in the week. The prices weren't horrible, my boyfriend and I were full and our bill was only $200.
P.S. Everything that you've read about the Black Cod Miso is true. It's the best thing that you will ever taste!! Please don't leave Nobu without trying it- you'll later regret it!
DO NOT GO FOR RESTAURANT WEEK!!! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!! WASTE OF TIME!!! STAY AWAY!!!.
THE FOOD WAS DECENT (VERY SMALL PORTIONS)...
FRIGID AIR, FRIGID STAFF, AND COMPLETE LACK OF ENTHUSIASM OF OUR PATRONAGE!!!
THE STAFF AND KITCHEN WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE US FEEL INFERIOR FOR ORDERING FROM THE RW MENU!
THE DESSERT WAS THE CHEF'S CHOICE...I'M LACTOSE INTOLERANT... THEY SENT OUT A BORING POUND CAKE WITH ICE CREAM!!!
RESTAURANT WEEK GOT ME IN THE DOOR, BUT I CERTAINLY DIDN'T IMPRESS ME AT ALL TO COME BACK!
SINCERELY,
20SOMETHING SUSHI LOVER :(
Bad.. Nobu was a great disapointment. The "kobe Beef" was overcooked. Parts of the sushi were chewy....... fu#*in chewy, are you kidding me? i was shocked. never again.
Yum!. I absolutely LUV japanese food, and i went to Nobu with such high expectations, all of which were fulfilled. I will go back to my friends and rave.
Best Japanese Meal Ever... This is probably the best Japanese fusion restaurant I've ever been to. Everything we had wasn't authentic Japanese, but all of them maintained a flavour from Japan - in either the ingredients or the seasoning , and I think the "fusion" turns out to be superb.
Times may a change, but Nobu's food is still amazing!.
After dinner tonight, I realize why Nobu's been going strong for nearly 15 years: the signature dishes are unforgettable!! In particular, the new style sashimi, the sashimi salad, the jallepeno yellow tail, and the rock shrimp; I remember they made my eyes roll back in my head when I first tried them nearly a decade ago. Tonight marks my fourth visit since then, and every time, the food - the cold dishes in particular - seem more amazing than I remembered!
There are some minor drawback that should be mentioned. For example, those who seat you tend to be aloof and a little snooty, as if to perpetuate the myth that Nobu remains 'the' exclusive celebrity hot-spot (based on tonight, you're more likely to see tables of financial guys than Howard Stern or Mark Wahlberg). It's also very difficult to get a reservation, which is baffling since there were at least 4 large tables unoccupied for a couple hours! Despite these problems, however, the actual wait staff are very attentive, helpful, and fast. And the fact remains that the dishes, the main attraction, should not to be missed!
