“We go there for family events, romantic dinners for two, or just because someone came to visit.”
“The service is outstanding and the food is terrific.”
“enjoy the warm decor and ambiance and would recommend it highly especially if you want Italian food that's not tomato-based in most of the selections.”
“By far the best restaurant in Little Ita”
“The service was excellent from start to finish (and this was during the hectic San Gennaro Feast), the Pollo di Parma was fresh and tasty, with gravy that was second to none.”
“My wife is a vegetarian and they easily accommodate by making the penne ala vodka sans meat, and thank god the portions were too big for her to finish because it left some for me to polish off.”
Citysearch Editorial Profile. A neighborhood spot amidst a slew of Little Italy restaurants serving similar food stands out for its amicable atmosphere.
Affordable, Most dishes are good. We were looking for a place to eat in Little Italy and came across Pellegrinos. It really was a highlight of our weekend in New York. The kids had the Ravioli Pelligrino, which was delicate and delicious. It had some sort of delicate butter wine sauce that really made it excellent. I had the Red Snapper, which wasn't amazing, but then again I am not a fish lover. The service was pretty good, and the prices were affordable. Overall I would recommend this place!
Awesome. Living in the neighborhood has rendered many visits to different restaurants in Little Italy. Thankfully, our search is over. This place is awesome. Fantastic swordfish appetizer. Nice selection of specials. Went early on a Wednesday night and over-crowding was no problem. Most definitely on our list to try again.
Excellent every time. What is the measure of a truly good restaurant? Fresh food, perfectly cooked dishes, great service; how about all of these, consistently, every time you go to a restaurant. Last night was my third time at Pellegrino?s and every time is just as good as the time before it and somehow still a little bit better. The food here is sublime, a variety of fresh baked breads to start, perfect combinations of flavors, pasta so fresh it feels made to order and cooked perfectly al dente every time. My wife is a vegetarian and they easily accommodate by making the penne ala vodka sans meat, and thank god the portions were too big for her to finish because it left some for me to polish off. One of our friends that we were dining with couldn?t decide between two dishes, so what does the waiter do? Combination platter, two pastas on one plate, no extra charge. Some of the other reviewers comment on the cost, but it?s like anything else, you get what you pay for; the food is that good, I promise. For four main courses, one bottle of wine and one appetizer it was $150, all a solid investment in satisfaction. Whenever I go to little Italy I make it a point to go to Pellegrino?s.
Our Favorite Restaurant. My husband was born raised on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, so I would say he knows good Italian Food. Pellegrinos is the Best. We go there for family events, romantic dinners for two, or just because someone came to visit. The food is amazing, I can't reccomend one dish since we have never had a bad one. When they have the Osso Bucco it is to die for, but it is a special. The gnocchi melt in your mouth and are never belly bombers like some other places. Yes Pellegrinos is a little pricier than some of the red sauce places in the area, but it is worth every dime. Anthony and Shaban make you feel like family and the waiters are courteous and efficient. You never feel rushed and are encouraged to linger over espresso with sambuca of course and a delicious home made desert. "Try it, you'll like it".
Best Food in Little Italy. Just spent 5 days in NYC. And this should say it all about Pellegrino's.........we ate there 3 times!!! Thursday night dinner, Friday lunch and Sunday back for dinner. Amazing food, amazing service. San Geannaro Festival had just started and the outside seating was packed. Best food in Little Italy!! Have Ozzie wait on you, he's the best.
Would definitely return. I had a great time here, I came with my wife for lunch and we absolutely loved the food. For appetizers we ordered the fried mozerella...very fresh and light it was soo good and the ceasar salad was perfect, and we ordered chicken parm and eggplant parm, both were fabulous. The service was efficient and friendly and accommodated to all of our needs. Love this place.
My favorite in Little Italy.
This is the place to go in Little Italy - the food is great, service friendly and you can always get a table. Not sure why it is never crowded but it just isn't. Probably too many amateurs flocking to other restaurants. Forget Angelo's - this is the PLACE!!
Oh and the Cappucino is the best anywhere.
Delicious but expensive.
Really wanted to get a 4-course meal but would have bankrupted me. I settled for the entree instead, which was the very delicious vitello alla sorentino. This was a veal cutlet with eggplant parmesan. Veal was tender and full of flavor.
Bread is also excellent.
Wait staff was timely, very polite and professional. Ambiance was okay, didn't feel necessarily italian, but overall was a pleasant restaurant.
Enjoyed my dining experience but think I am still in search for the best of the best in Little Italy.
I'll agree with a previous reviewer that it's a shame Little Italy has become confined to only Mulberry street. Chinatown is getting bigger.
OK food; unprofessional service; READ THE BILL!!!.
The restaurant was recommended by a friend and we left disappointed. The food was above average, however, the service needs serious improvement. The tables in the restaurant are tightly packed (expected for a NYC restaurant.) Howver, we didn't expect to be bumped by waiters a few times during our dinner.
When we received the bill, we were surprised that 18% of gratuity was added for our party of four. We paid the full amount and after we got our change, the waiter checked in front of us to see whether there was any money left and embarrassed us by asking "where are my tips?" when he already got 18% from us!!! That was very rude and after we explained to him that he got 18% already, he checked our bill and tried to make excuses (the computer automatically added the gratuity) and never apologized!!
