Firstly air is pumped into the duck to stretch and loosen the skin, then boiling water is repeatedly spread over the bird, which is then carefully dried, the dried skin is rubbed all over with maltose, and the duck is then roasted in a hot oven for a period of time until the meat is tender and the skin crispy. You can have three guesses what you should order at Peking Duck House, and here's a hint: it's not egg foo yung. A specialist in one (very difficult) dish, this is the place to go for laquered, slow-roasted pekin ducks, ceremonially sliced and served on a large platter, and accompanied by soft crepes, plum sauce, and scallions. Don't bother asking for a menu.

Get anything BUT the duck. I've always wanted to check this place out but after going last night I would not rush to go back. The duck was mediocre and the sauce it was served with was really watery. It's a clean and decent looking place and the rest of the food was ok. The dumplings were great, actually. Just don't get the duck.

We'll be back again for the Peking duck!.
Prior to walking into Peking Duck House, I didn't have a clue as to the detailed process that a duck must go through to not only be chosen for Peking Duck but then the process itself...fascinating!
We ended up there twice during our most recent trip to New York; the first time we were part of a larger group and ordered the whole Peking duck. Seeing the duck wheeled out and sliced in front of you is not only very interesting, it adds a nice show element to the meal. The skin is absolutely incredible and each slice just melts in your mouth. The cucumbers and scallions, paired with the sauce, meld perfectly with the duck and make you want to continue eating long after you're full. Dangerous stuff, that.
Our second meal was much more low key; we finished a tour on the edge of Chinatown and were hungry so we headed over to the Peking Duck House once more. This time, we ordered off the regular menu. We started with won ton soup and steamed chicken dumplings, both were very good. We then moved on to crispy duck with a side of sauteed spinach. The crispy duck was fine, but after being spoiled by the Peking duck of several days prior it just didn't quite measure up.
We'll be back again and will be ordering the Peking duck!

Bad food, discrimination, DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Their food is way overpriced, tables are small, some areas are dirty.
They DON'T like asian customers, period.
They don't like to seat them and they don't even like to take their reservation. I tried just earlier today to make a reservation for tonight, they told me there is no table. I asked an american colleague to make the call again after 15 minutes, they told her no problem. Will never visit this restaurant again.

Decent chinese food. I didn't read any of the reviews of this restaurant before dining there (luckily or else I probably wouldn't have gone), and am surprised at the negative comments in most of them. The service is about as good as any Asian restaurant I have eaten at and the food (spring rolls, dumplings, a chicken and beef entree) was of a fairly good standard. I watched one of the chefs slicing up ducks throughout dinner and they all looked super-nice, though I was surprised like others on here about the size of the pancakes - they did seem too big for peking duck. The free tea and no corkage charge on the bottle of wine we took were pleasant surprises. As far as the disdrimination goes, there was at least two tables that I remember (it's not something that I intentionally look out for) had Asian families having dinner. Overall we had a very nice dinner and I would recommend this place to visiting friends.

Disgusting Food & Service. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. I really mean that. These people here do not like Asian customers at all. They tried to seat us downstairs just like what they try to do with all their other Asian customers. When we request to go back upstairs, they were gave us attitudes. May I say we made reservation in advance too! They said something like this: If the boss say ok then whatever. While the waiter was saying that, he did not look at us at all. It was like he was talking to the table. Very rude. When the food came... it was something you can get at a Take Out restaurant. What a waste of money! I suggest people not to go to this restaurant. There are much better restaurants directly across the street.

Bad customer service. The Peking Duck was average (not the best that I've had.) The other food was below average. The servers all had an attitude: unwilling to serve. We went there for a group birthday dinner and felt rushed out of the restaurant. Will not return.

Worst Food in the WHOLE CHINATOWN and Discrimination is ADDED!.
I always wanted to try this place, Let me first by telling you, we made reservations. When my party arrive they proceeded to get us downstairs into the basement. The basement Stinks! It smells like OLD humid air. There were no one else in the basement besides us, and there were open tables upstairs. (yes we are asian). I proceeded to ask the host if we can be seated upstairs, after alot of talk and some discomfort, they cram us into a small table and just ignored us for a good 20 minutes. While all the other tables around us got served tea and placed their order. We almost walked out at this point and SHOULD"VE! A waiter came over really upset and took our order. At this point we figured out we were the real sitting ducks, the real fools of chinatown going to a resturant that was designed for tourist and nothing more.
The food finally came and it couldn't be any worst! The food is compared to a chinese fast food restaurant, there's no difference. Worst part is the duck was $40 and they didn't even use authentic wrap. They gave us some SOFT TACO WRAP!
This place is a WASTE OF MONEY, Discrimination! POOR SERVICE, HORRIBLE FOOD!
You want good DUCK? GO to BIG WONG just down the street towards CANAL.
You want AUTHENTIC CHINESE? GO to WO HOP down the street towards BOWERY.
AVOID THIS PLACE!

Just don't go!. Let me say that there is nothing wrong with the food. However, the service and the discrimination that this restaurant dishes out is unbelievable. I'm surprised there haven't been lawsuits filed yet. YES they do discriminate against asians. This place is a pure tourist trap that would rather have the asians sitting in the basement while the non-asians sit in the main dining room. Let me explain. The restaurant wants you to think that this is an upscale establishment. Most asians dine family style and yes they can be loud during dinner. They want you to believe that by seating asians downstairs will suit our style of dining. They want you to think that if you see non-asians through the window this will draw non-asians in. All of the negative reviews are coming from the asian patrons. Now let me tell you the shocker. My cousin used to work there and he was told specifically to seat and serve non-asians upstairs and asians downstairs. If you support discrimination then this place is for you.

discriminates Jewish. service was very bad, so I only gave 8% tip because they deserved no more. my girlfriend is half-chinese and heard them say that we must be Jewish because all J's are stingy, the Germans should have exterminated us. I don't know how this shop can still have 4 stars when many of the reviews are no more than 1 star. It's ironic that they got voted for best Chinese restaurant in NY last year. I think everybody should stop going there.

Worst Customer Service, Food is no good. lazy and poor service. the server only insterested to serve the people that they know. If you don't go there frequent enough and the server doesn't recongize you then it mean you will get extremely poor services. I hate this place. I won't eat there again. The peking duck is not that special. The food taste worst than a take out chinese restaurant.
