“Affordable Sushi, very fresh and great atmosphere”
“oysters in red wine sauce was amazing.”
“Other nights, however, service can be pretty bad and really slow (even if the restaurant is not crowded) and the sushi tastes as if it has been in the tackle box a little too long.”
“The fine sushi, amazing sake selection (try the extra-dry) and warm setting make it an appealing dinner spot.”
“Agree, that this is a great afterwork place or a first date (i.e., not too, too romantic) place.”
“I'll go back soon because the last meal was pretty good.”
“the sushi is among the best i have had, the staff are polite and helpfull (consistenly good sake recomendations).”
“Their sake samples are QUITE pleasing and you are almost never lacking in a huge portion when it comes to meals.”
“Other nights, however, service can be pretty bad and really slow (even if the restaurant is not crowded) and the sushi tastes as if it has been in the tackle box a little too long.”
Great Food. Just had a fabulous lunch. The spicy salmon roll was delicious. It seems they have lunch specials that change every week. Great flavor. The other reviews are right, as good as Nobu without the hype.
Zutto?????. Well, after reading many reviews and walking past Zutto many times, I decided to pop in for a taste. First off the non-sushi food is terrible. The Tempura was below average and the Gyoza was cold. The sushi is average at best and the service was terrible. We had some guy who worked there who stood the entire time besides our table and gave us no space. My dinner was horrible. I ordered a Filet and it came cooked in a butter and wine sauce, at a Japanese restaurant. I could not eat it because of its awful taste. I didn't even ask for a new meal but instead asked for them to change the flavor of the one I ordered so I could eat it, they said there was nothing that could be done. Overall it was as horrible a meal as I have head in a Japanese restaurant ever. Any restaurant in NYC would have been better. Horrible service only outdone by the food that left an aftertaste in my tables mouth not to be forgotten. The decor of the restaurant was nice however.
As good as Nobu without the hype. Cafe-like Japanese restaurant - a Tribeca favorite.
Affordable Sushi, very fresh and great atmosphere. I am a Tribeca native and have been going to Zutto for over fifteen years. I have never had a bad meal here. There sushi is always fresh, although I don't eat sushi on sunday's that's my rule. If you like dumplings try the shu mai appetizer. They also have a good selection of saki's and beers. The decor is very nicely done in a japanese style of course. You can sit at the sushi bar or at the tables. You don't need a reservation here but sometimes it gets crowded. I would prefer zutto over Nobu anyday and i've tried both. Nobu you would go to, to be seen, Zutto you just go to to relax and have some great sushi. I never had bad sushi here ever. Easiest way to find it is, get off the 123 at chambers and walk north on hudson street5 blocks. If you pass by Puffy's Tavern on the corner you've gone to far. Nice ambience decent prices, if its busy service is slower but not super slow. My favorites here are the spicy tuna roll, salmon sushi and tuna are all fresh. I don't mess around with the exotic sushi's I keep it simple. Enjoy.
Worst Sushi in NY. You know when your sushi arrives and its all the same color (grey/pink) that you are in trouble. The space is lovely. But this is amazingly poor quality fish. Even the presentation is shoddy. This place should really be ashamed of itself. Beware.
Good and then not good.
I have been to Zutto several times. Agree, that this is a great afterwork place or a first date (i.e., not too, too romantic) place.
This restaurant is confusing. Some nights, the service is great and the sushi is super fresh-I really enjoy it. And, the bill is always reasonable. Other nights, however, service can be pretty bad and really slow (even if the restaurant is not crowded) and the sushi tastes as if it has been in the tackle box a little too long. On average, I have had two wonderful visits and then a visit that makes me avoid the place for a month.
By any measure, it is worth a try to see for yourself. I'll go back soon because the last meal was pretty good.
Pretty Good. I'm not a sushi snob by any stretch (I usually refer to sushi as "bait" or "chum"), but I actually enjoyed it here. The tempura was very good, but then again, I don't think I've ever had BAD tempura... The service was prompt, friendly and attentive. All around a very nice experience.
worst service. Male host almost seemed to bark order at our seating and request. Not friendly at all nor attentive. Food was fine but no big deal. Prices are no great deal either. Lunch crowd is busy & loud at times.
poor sushi. I was raised in Japan and have had sushi a hundred times so I know the way of sushi. the rice is too firm, and it seems they select cheap rice. freshness is as same as a 8 dollar sushi lunch box in midtown. i cant see any skills in their sushi. just do not order sushi, its not worth to pay near 20 bucks. you can definitely find better sushi somewhere else in manhattan. i don know why the other people say their sushi is good. tempura is alright.
infallible sushi. I have been dragged all over the city by sushi snobs, and there is no place I would rather go (with or without them) than Zutto. Great service, nice and calm environment, impeccable sushi. Its too bad they closed the Carmine street location. Eschew Nobu...
