So-so – We went there for date night and my first impression was that the decor was quite nice and felt warm. Initially I liked the candlelit room, yet this turned out to be a detriment. It was so dim that we could not read our menu at all and had to use our cell phones to order. Looking around I saw that many other tables were also doing this. It was quite awkward. Also the same problem arose when actually eating, could barely see the plates. I like a candle lit room but this was a bit ridiculous. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria, the large one, and I was disappointed it tasted watered down, and we had about 4 glasses each (after which I usually feel a little buzzed) but nothing, it was like drinking water. The food was OK, but not great, I have had better tapas and Paella elsewhere. Then there was live music, which was also nice, but because it is a narrow space, we could barely see the flamenco dancer at all... We were sitting listening to music, eating at a leisurely rate and the busboy must have come up to us about 3 times asking if we had finished, when our plates still had food on it and the paella wasn't even half done. All in all, I do not think I would come back to this restaurant, I think there are better ones even on this street that have the same atmosphere but better food and ambiance.
Great Atmosphere! and food – this place will take you away, the atmosphere is intoxicating! The food is so yummy you could stay for hours eating a little bit of everything!
What Happened??? – I have been going to Flor De Sol for over 8 years celebrating my birthday and many dates and girls night out there. I made Friday reservations there last week and had to return several dishes for being undercooked, and/or cold. The worse part was the waiter ignored us and even went so far to tell us "NO" when we asked to change something on our order only seconds after he entered the order into the computer. He then handed our 150 dollar check without us even asking for it...so rude!!! Too many option in NYC to go back here.
nice tapas place! – went there after a very disappointing meal at bouley cafe. what a pleasent surprise!! it was one of the best tapas places I had ever been. It was very romantic setting w/ a nice live spanish music. Moreover, their food and wine were fabulous!! can't wait to go back there!
Average – Flor de Sol is always rated extremely high so I knew I needed to check it out. Overall I had a decent time, but it's not one of the best spots in town, not even in the top ten. Food was decent but not outstanding and the portions were small.
Excellent – I thought it was excellent. The attention to detail both in execution & presentation was impeccable as was the service. All the dishes were perfectly sized for sharing & delicious. My friend and I shared 3 "small plates" and 1 dessert with a couple glasses of wine. And, we did not feel stuffed, just pleasantly full.
This place is priced about right for the quality. I will definitely come back again to try more dishes.
GREAT SERVICE & TERRIFIC TAPAS !!!! – I made reservations for early sat night and we were seated as soon as we walked in...........the waiter recommended the sangria of which we had 1 glass each with a couple of tapas.......those meatballs are to die for!!!! then our entress arrived we asked our waiter for wine recommendations so we tried an argentinian cabernet which was veryyy tasty!! overall we had a great time, but we couldnt see the flamenco dancing......we were told the lead singer on sat nights is away on tour anyhow we'll def be back!
Crappy service- barely passable food- for these prices treat yourself by finding another place – We decided to go there to celebrate my brother's birthday. Forget about the fact that we had to signal the waiter for water or bread every time (there were about 10 of us), or the fact that they wouldn't clear away the plates (at a tapas place you'd expect that), or that the food was barely passable- perhaps that is why they served such small portions- too much and you wouldn't order anything else. The thing that we all thought was hilarious?? Every 5 minutes or so the waiter would come around and very loudly ask "ANYONE NEED ANY MORE DRINKS?" We finally joined in with him to keep our sanity. A real disappointment. Luckily in New York, other truly great choices abound. Steer clear of this dump.
Buyer beware – My last experience was horrible. Usually good food and service but this time around not only was service slow but they also lost my leather gloves. The manager gave me his card as they were busy and said he'd call to let me know if they found my gloves. Long story short after several attempts to get the manager no response. Not only will I not be going back but I'm actively letting other folks know buyer beware!!!!!!!
Lovely setting with great food – I've been here serveral times and each time the service and food were fantastic. The astmosphere is cozy and romantic, i would reccomend going on a night where they have a flamenco preformance. If you go make sure to save room dessert and order the dulce de leche cake!
