“The food was larger portions for a tapas menu and the service was great!”
“nice place to relax with friends”
“The staff was rude and the establishment was dirty.”
“Ample portions of food at reasonable prices.”
“went there about three times, one for dinner on a sunday evening which is a salsa night after dinning, the service was slow and a bit rude, the plates average some shrimp octopus and empanadas.”
Bad attitude of the management and food is not the same anymore!. Last weekend my friends and I decided to go Kanas for tapas. My last time I was in that place must to been a year ago and what was my surprise; The tapas weren't the same all good tapas they used to make, oh, oh not anymore, however, the attitude of the management (the two guys, who always stand out side the door) was still the same, arrogant and uncommunicative. You know what people say; some bad habits never change....
Best place for Latin music party this side of Manhattan. I came to Kana with my friend and I had a blast at this place. I have to admit the place was a tad small but that makes it so much cozy and intimate. The place is a spanish tapas bar restaurant until 11pm when they remove the tables and the party starts. The food was good but not that great. Maybe 'cause Im not so much into seafood and their dishes contain lots of it. The drinks were right on with apparently extra alcohol in them since I almost got drunk which just 2 during the whole night. Now lets get to the music. We went on Friday night and the deejay was rocking. If you like a mix of Spanish Rock, Latin Pop, Salsa, Merengue classics, Reggaeton Brasilian and even a bit of Arabic music this is the place to be at. This is definately not your typical latin club. The crowd was jumping and having fun. I think the dj's name was darilov. Great dj. I will definately will be coming back for more. Great place!
Don't waste your money here - SO many better tapas places in NYC!.
This place is very sub-par for a NYC restaurant. The tapas selection is poor. The proscuitto was dry. I've purchased better "authentic Spanish" olives at Key Foods. The sangria is not bad but I've made better with cheap wine at home. HOWEVER all of this would have been EASILY overlooked had it not been for the EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE waitstaff and management. Our check was $400 (which is a lot for a place where tapas dishes run $12 and and sangria pitchers $25) and the second they dropped our check, the waitress was already moving our coats off of four chairs and re-seating the table (mind you, these people had just stood up to say goodbye to the other end of the table, they had not left the building) I went to retrieve my coat and was promptly shoved out of the way by the waitress who then proceeded to give me attitude about trying ot retrieve my coat saying that she had been given the authority to move them (by who, I'm not sure) then she proceeded to argue with me when I asked her to stop moving our things, at which point I asked to speak to her manager. After being mocked by her she said she would "call him". Then she proceeds to roll her eyes at me, and go over to the bartender and relate how "crazy" I am to the bartender
who then rolls her eyes at me as well. Finally the manager shows up. I explain that I am appalled that we have spent $400 at his restaurant and are not even allowed to gather our belongings and pay our check before the table we are currently occupying is being re-sat and we're being harassed. I waitressed for years in college and from what I remember - we weren't allowed to TALK BACK to customers. Obviously this restaurant has their own version of crude service which includes arguing with customers. Then to top everything off I explained how rude the waitress was the manager (who made it blatantly obvious he couldn't care less) he responded "So what? What am I supposed to do about it?" Absolutely unbelievable!
THE WORST!!!!!. The worst. My wife and I were sick for days after eating at this restaurant. The staff was rude and the establishment was dirty. I would suggest you avoid this like the plague that it is.
i love this place.
the music is amazing... the dancing is amazing and the drinks are strong and really do give you the fuel to keep going on all night .... everytime i've gone, the party is always at it's peak and it doesn't end till the lights turn on. I love this place.
the only bad part is how incredibly crowded it gets but that also adds to the party atmosphere =)
feels like spain except a little louder. i stopped in for dinner before going to the ear inn and was wonderfully surprised by the food and the ambience. it felt like i was in madrid, except there were some really loud big groups. the service was just right and the wine list was perfect. if people are expecting a fine dining experience, this is not it. it's simply a charming tapas place like at a lounge in spain. so go when you're relaxed, not all wound up and unable to enjoy the charm.
Greatest tapas bar in NYC!. Good music (latin pop and ason salsa classics)...amazing tapas (good portions!!my pick: gambas ajilo)...beautiful waitress and the best sangria in town!
Tapas may not be the best, beautiful people and a true latin feel make it worth your time. I was brought to this place by a good friend, an afficionado of anything Spanish and Latin. The ambience creates a feel of being in some lounge in Argentina or Spain far for New York City, this is its charm. The place is small and quaint, it's a restaurant during the early evening hours and around 11pm they remove the tables and it becomes a dance club where the music is latin pop to merengue and salsa. If you want to avoid the cover get there before 10 sit at the bar and wait. I have since gone back a couple of times and although we usually have something to eat elsewhere. We go for the drinks, ambience and beautiful latin women, good sound system and good music. The Tapas may be better elsewhere. It seems Friday night draws a better crowd, (more mature and respectable crowd), Qualities that become important in a small place that is crammed with people after 11. With all the bad, I plan on becoming a regular.
Great Sangria Great Prices Great Service!!!!. I don't know what all of these people are ranting about..I've been there twice and have had great service both times. In fact, will be there again this weekend! The staff are attentive and very enjoyable to talk to. If I still lived nearby, that would be my hangout all spring/summer long!!!! If it's a beautiful night, I'd recommend sitting outside, drinking the lovely sangria (the champagne sangria was pretty awesome) and enjoy the food. It helps that there are some pretty darn cute guys hanging out at Ear Inn, which is next door......
Awful overall experience.
I went to this place with a few of my girlfriends for a night out and had the worst time. The food is average at best, the service appalling - very rude, inattentive waitresses. We were 10 in a party and they wouldn't seat us even with 9. After everyone showed up, we were cramped on to uncomfortable tables meant for 8! When two of my friends arrived at 10:10 for a dinner reservation, the greedy owners charged them $15 cover - FOR A DINNER RESERVATION???
The tone is set by the very greedy and rude owners. Crowd has definitely gone downscale. Only somewhat redeeming feature is reasonably good latin pop music. Overall, skip this place and head to Flor de Sol or Azafran in Tribeca for *much* better tapas, and head to any of a number of latin dance places downtown.
