Fun evening with great food! – I enjoyed this place immensely.
The food was delicious. My wife and I had calamari and octopus as an appetizer. As a main course I had the lamb chops, and she tried the salmon. The lamb chops were out of this world!
Atmosphere was good and different. While we were there, they had the dance floor open for tango dancers. Fun to watch! They even gave beginners lessons.
Service was good and attentive.
All in all, a great evening with good food. We will be back!
I wish you can put negative stars for this place – This is by FAR the WORST place i have ever ever ate in. I cannot even believe they have positive reviews. Maybe if you are homeless and they give you the food for free i would really understand this. For appetizer we had shrimp w/ tomatoes and cheese, which pretty much smelled like someone threw up in it. Second appetizer was a Greek salad with romaine and spinach, a quarter of a tomato, total price $25. For Entree i got the lobster tail with fillet Mignon and my wife got shrimp with rice and vegetables($25 , which was pretty much my appetizer($16) + rice on the side)
fillet was full of fat and completely super well done( i ordered medium)and it came with plastic cap with ketchup that was sitting on top of the steak, french fries and celery, dry lobster tail with butter($35). Lastly the desert. tiramisu ($7x 2) + lipton tea $8. One would think at this point how is it possible to really mess up tiramisu. It looked ok when it got to the table . But then you take a bite of it and it's SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Total BILL $134. BTW18% gratuity is included, what a surprise.
PLEASE SAVE A NITE OF SLEEPING ON YOUR TOILET AND STAY AWAY
Get the grilled octopus – Took a take out for moussaka, and it was good and filling.
I tried the octopus the second time I went there and I was very thrilled.
Great Malbec wine – Emm will I go there again, probably. I think the wine was very good. I'm not much of an eater, I prefer drink,s o Yes The Malbec will defeintely bring me back.
Nice show! – I came hereon Friday w/ my friends and noticed the crowd.
Pretty packed Friday night. Atmosphere was moderate to good.
We didn't want to do Thai again considering we had a bad experience the last time we went and wanted to try something new, so we came to Lafayette to see some belly dancing. The show was amazing.
Great food since management change – I heard they changed somethings around here in the past month. Its been a while since I came here, since the previous reviews.
Last Wednesday, I was in the neighbourhood and came in, to find a great surprize. The staff were polite and the food was served pretty quickly. I ordered a plate of Calamri since I was being a little judgemental.
I always judge a place by their calamari. It was crisp, and juicy. I've had great calamari before, but I must admit I was seriously surprized. My entree was a moussakka. It was nicely prepared.
Again I was pleasantly surprized.
The Best Marinated Black Greek Olives you have ever tasted (+ Feta Cheese, OMG!) – Well in these recessionary times, you could spend hard-earned dollars on Broadway, at a ball game or even the movies . . . but why bother! When you come into the Lafayette Grill & Bar you get well fed and (exhaustingly) well entertained --
(That's better excercise and better health than sitting on your butt for 2-4 hours, spending more, getting less and then saying 'that's what I spent all my money on?!')
Truly to say you're at a "Grill & Bar" is only 1/2 to 1/3 of all the things going on at this quintessential, cultural oassis. How about eating FANTASTIC ethnic or classic American Cusine durring "Greek Fest" (Every Friday Night), including beautiful belly dancers followed by your own dancing (let that hair down ... if you got hair!), followed by Professional Singers, and all-night, background music band bringing it full-circle!
Great Eats (and might I add quite healthy as they promote an authentic 'Mediteranian Diet' Menu for those of you who really want to live - longer!
Hey, there's reasons why Methuselah lived 969 years, this diet is one of them!); Don't worry, you'll be back for even more, tomorrow!
Great Times (and Friday is NOT the only time this place Rocks! It Tango's, Salsa's ... more like Sizzles, if you know what I mean and does just about everything else Mon-Thurs, so be here or be "square", somewhere else!);
Great Laughs (Were any of you folks here for the "Greek Gods of Comedy" Night?? It was a BLAST and management was handing out free 'Depends(TM)' to audience members ... unless you liked peeing in your pants -- some of the customers ended up being the real 'Show-Stopers', pardon-the-pun).
Great People, like YOU come here, everyday, after day, after day, after (you get the picture, oh yeah they have their own picture gallery as well, so feast your tummy and your eyes!)
Oh and the Price? (I almost forgot) avg. $20-$40pp. The Yankees/Mets are more! Have a Drink and watch them here also if you like, for FREE! Bon Appetite!!!
LAFAYETTE GRILL – I came here for dinner on friday night thinking I was going to enjoy authentic greek food. It was horrible!!! The food was disgusting and didnt have any flavor at all. The chicken kebab had no taste whatsoever. The grecian octopus salad was dissapointing. To top it all off the bill was ridiculous. I had better kebabs from a street vendor.
CONS: Our waitress was attentive and nice
Worst Service, Rude Staff, and Misquote of Prices and Times by Phone – Do not eat at this restaurant. I went with family and friends and was quoted the wrong times for the show and wrong price for admission. Over the phone I was told that if you have dinner, the door cost was not charged only to find out that the admission is charged by the performers, not the restaurant. We were given seats behind a pillar so it was difficult to see the show. The wait staff were inattentive and didn't bother refilling our water glasses or asking if we wanted dessert. The food was horrible and overpriced. The Lafayette Grill and Bar is in the middle of nowhere below Canal Street.
This is strictly a nightclub that begins around 11-12 midnight. Go to drink and watch the dancing. The live music was terrific as were the dancers. It is obviously a very inexpensive venue for dance troupes. The crowd when I went was spending money like crazy on liquor only. They obviously knew what we didn't.
Stay away! – This place is horrendous! One of the worst places I have ever been to. The staff was rude and had no knowledge. Waitress refused to separate our check because it would be too complicated. The food was terrible and obviously from the frozen food section at Costco or BJs. Not authentic at all. At 10pm they basically kick everyone out and give them their checks. Mind you this was a Friday night. The samba party and lessons were a joke.
