363 W Broadway, New York, NY | Directions 1001340.723138 -74.002883
Neighborhoods: Downtown, SoHo
Established in 1972 in what was then known as the "cast-iron district", the Broome Street Bar provides comforting tradition within the constant flux of SoHo. This Restaurant/Bar has a history, and wears it proudly.
In its relaxed atmosphere, lunch and dinner, including daily specials, are priced very moderately. The bar offers an extensive beer menu and selection of wines. We also have brunch on Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm.
Stop in, unwind, and be merry.
if you like to be treated like sh*t, this place is for you – I've never been so rudely treated by staff in a bar/restaurant in my life. I've lived in NYC for over 20 yrs and have been to many a dive bar and I've never been denied a table wipe down ANYWHERE after previous guests left it messy. The so called manager was nicely asked by me, my husband, and the bartender to just wipe the table down and he outright REFUSED. Really??!?!? Refuse to wipe down a table in a bar/restaurant? What planet is this guy from?!?!? He claims he was saving his precious tables for dinner guests - it was 12:45AM - nobody in there was eating!!!! Then to top it off, a few guys walked in behind us and made it clear they were there to only drink and this so called manager leads them to a clean table. What a joke. My money is good, and believe me, I've got disposable income and can drink with the best of them. Not only will I never go back to this less-then-hospitable establishment, but I'll go out of my way to tell all of my friends and acquaintances to avoid the Broome St Bar like the plague.
Closed by Board of Health – This neighborhood gem has been closed by the board of health. Sad.
Cliquish hangout in Soho – This place reminds me of Fanelli's with fewer tourists. There's a bar to the side with a few tables up front. Then there's a larger dining room up a few steps in back. The decent beer selection is in the slightly pricey range, ($7 to $9) but not outrageous. There are a lot of office-style collar work shirts. Few t-shirts and fewer ties. I can't vouch for much of the food. I had the sardine salad plate, and it was pretty good. Not spectacular, but filling enough for $10. The main drawback (but for those IN, it's a plus) seems to be an extreme cliquishness. If you're a regular, or with a group, you'll get along fine. But don't expect anyone (including the waitstaff) to come over and say "hi, how're you doin' tonight?" They don't care. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
BeSt BuRgEr In ToWn – Wooww, i always have a cheeseburger and small crispy fries, love them. But this time i got i waitress who hold my beer for few min while she was talking to her friends and forgot to put my order at the end i got free beer. Hopefully next time i get the same waitress, LOL.
Consistently good food and service – We stumbled upon Broome Street Bar several years ago when I first moved here and didn't know the Soho area that well. We liked it then and after eating there again yesterday, still love it. We ordered a burger and pastrami sandwich and enjoyed both. We're a confused as to why they don't serve chili during lunch hours on Saturdays & Sundays, but only more reason for us to go back during the week.
Editorial Review – Soho spot serves pub grub like sandwiches, hamburgers, soups and salads.
surprisingly good – the burgers are the centerpiece here. it would be even better if they did away w/the pita pockets or made them just optional. however, the patties are good quality and thick and juicy. in fact, the burgers here are one of the very top in town. the nachos are average at best. i've been here several times and always get the same waiter, who is very nice.
kick @ss bar food – A great place to go into any time of year, but when you can walk in during the dead of winter, order a hot spiced cider and that knockwurst sandwich plate, it's like walking into heaven. I just hope heaven has as good of a beer selection... and that bleu cheese / pear / walnut salad. Damn, I'm hungry.
