In Short – In a homey, retro corner spot, with big, inviting windows and neon signage, this quiet cantina serves hefty burritos, enchiladas and the like to an enthusiastic clientele. The burritos and enchiladas each come with half a dozen choices of filling, including chili verde, chipotle shrimp and several vegetarian options. A variety of other entrees include tamales with various fillings, and huachinango Veracruz, a snapper filet with a piquant tomato sauce. Desserts include coconut flan and brownies.
Delicious Mexican

Lupes serves delicious authentic Mexican in a charming tin-roof storefront on the edge of Soho. The service is friendly and the ambience very casual.
- Pros: Guacamole
- Cons: Small location
I got a tip for you, this is not LA!
by delirous
Went there today with my cousin. We both hail from southern california. I don't know what part of East LA they learning their mexican style of cooking, but it is not close. It's ok, and is definitely not TEX MEX, but if you are reading the rest of these reviews and thinking you are about to get the real deal... Uh No. I had the Chicken Enchaldas, my cousin had the chicken norteno. The Beans were good (black), and the rice was good (nice flavor), but the sauce for the enchaladas... bland. little more flavor needed. I would go back, but It's not the best in the NYC. I have been to some here in the NYC better... The chips and salsa, NOT GOOD. They did not have corn chips, but the flour chips from the bag. Salsa could be better.
- Pros: Beans, Rice, Good date spot, they serve drinks
- Cons: Enchalada sauce, chips, salsa
Excellent Mexican Food...For Manhattan
by foodie326
If you're from California or Texas, you frequently lament the sorry state of Mexican food in NYC: the sugar in the salsa, sweet syrupy margaritas, exclusion of items like chile relleno/tamles on menus, etc. I avoid all Mexican food in NY, but every few months I need a fix and try a self-described 'authentic' place. All that being said, Lupe's is good, heads above the other stuff you find. We ordered margaritas, guac, salsa, chile verde, enchiladas and chile rellenos for about $25 a person. Everything was excellent and the service was attentive. This place is barebones, a cozy diner atmosphere. I've learned not to expect the stuff you get in states that border Mexico. The sauces and dishes are prepared differently, but are still good. If you don't know what the fuss about Mexican food is, that means you've never had good Mexican food and it probably makes no difference where you eat. And if you do know what all the fuss is about, then try Lupe's.
- Cons: Cash only
