“Good beer, good drinks, good atmosphere, good people, good service, there's a pool table.”
“... great cold beer.”
“Nice breath of fresh air compared to all those "trendy" spots downtown.”
“They have friendly bartenders and a bunch of beers on draft.”
“Great staff, great jukebox and great drinks for the right price!”
WELCOME TO ANTARCTICA Where the drinks are big, and the memories are short. Also, the drinks are big. A pre-prohibition, pre-Internet drinking establishment, Antarctica this year celebrates its 276th year of continuous business. Established the same year that Guinness Stout was invented, Antarctica shares with that beverage a rich, dark history of intoxicating peasants and noblemen alike. …
Great to unwind. Great place to unwind have a few drinks and relax. There is a great atmosphere. Def. good choice.
Cheers to Antarctica. Perfect for happy hour, after work or just a place to grab a beer with friends.
I like Antarctica. Antarctica is a cool place to hang out and watch a game. They have friendly bartenders and a bunch of beers on draft. You can also shoot a game of pool if the game gets boring. Highly Recommended.
Now this is your neighborhood bar!. Good beer, good drinks, good atmosphere, good people, good service, there's a pool table....Antarctica, a great American bar
It's a dive. Pretty plain place. There's a pool table in the back (the sticks could use some work). A few TV's scattered throughout and a decent jukebox with a mix of hip-hop and rock. Surprisingly draws a decent number of English and Irish folk. If you come to play pool for fun, be warned. The people who gather by the pool table are very competitive. If they lose, some will try and interfere with the next game to vent out their frustrations. Name night is a good deal if you're lucky enough to have yours drawn. Bathrooms are plain.
Friendly Staff, Great Space. I've held two parties here and the staff and the space were great on both occassions. Very attentive bartender, plenty of seats, and a good jukebox. And the volume of the music is such that you can actually hold a conversation without screaming.
Divey, but in a respectable, almost reverent way..
The Scene
It's nothing fancy, but that doesn't keep after-work drinkers from loosening their ties and staying awhile. A vintage photo of an Old New York pub crowd covers one whole wall opposite the handsome antique bar, and quotable quotes are scribbled on chalkboards throughout. Expect to stand, but order a pitcher of beer and play pool, catch the game on TV or just plot who you'll "bump into" on your next trip to the bar.
The Draw
Looking for that low-maintenance special someone? Inexpensive drinks and an effective touch of grunginess attract a down-to-earth bunch that's sensible, sociable and has a wry sense of humor. The Soho-Tribeca locale adds irony: Most patrons aren't scraping their pockets for change, but appreciate the post-workday grit and grumble like anyone else. Groups pile in for a quick drink, but rarely keep it at that.
A great classic pub. To me, it says everything that the only negative reviews Antarctica has received came from a couple who normally review upscale restaurants and a single swanky lounge. I love this place. I hang out at Antarctica often, love the juke, like to get in a game of pool or just hang out with friends. It's a regular pub, and anyone whose ever been in a dive will tell you, this is no dive!
WELL drinks. Typical college looking kinda bar. Dark, smokey, but the drinks are loaded and given in pint glasses for about 6 bucks. Problem is it's hit or miss on certain weekends.
pint-sized mixed drinks!. My very first night in NYC and I spent it here. Their Name of the Day allowed me to drink free the entire night. The bartender even comped my friends and me a round of free shots! It was great! Definitely making this a regular stop on all of my trips to NYC.
