Editorial Review for Antarctica – by Lisa Marie Rovito
The Scene
It's nothing fancy, but that doesn't keep after-work drinkers from loosening their ties and staying awhile. A vintage photo of an Old New York pub crowd covers one whole wall opposite the handsome antique bar, and quotable quotes are scribbled on chalkboards throughout. Expect to stand, but order a pitcher of beer and play pool, catch the game on TV or just plot who you'll "bump into" on your next trip to the bar.
The Draw
Looking for that low-maintenance special someone? Inexpensive drinks and an effective touch of grunginess attract a down-to-earth bunch that's sensible, sociable and has a wry sense of humor. The Soho-Tribeca locale adds irony: Most patrons aren't scraping their pockets for change, but appreciate the post-workday grit and grumble like anyone else. Groups pile in for a quick drink, but rarely keep it at that.

Pretty plain place. There's a pool table in the back (the sticks could use some work). A few TV's scattered throughout and a decent jukebox with a mix of hip-hop and rock. Surprisingly draws a decent number of English and Irish folk. If you come to play pool for fun, be warned. The people who gather by the pool table are very competitive. If they lose, some will try and interfere with the next game to vent out their frustrations. Name night is a good deal if you're lucky enough to have yours drawn. Bathrooms are plain.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Plain, Clientele
