Editorial Review for Urban Archaeology – by Jennifer Howze
The Scene
The city's most fashionable retailers, hotels and restaurants get their charming sconces, light fixtures and faucet taps here. The store buys and consigns pieces found by antique dealers and demolition crews, selling to customers like ABC Home and Carpet and Ralph Lauren. The Tribeca space is easy to spot: A cast iron mermaid from a fountain in Paris stands sentinel.
The Goods
Most of the items here are striking, if a little impractical for your average New York apartment. (What can one do with original iron railings from the Paris Bon Marche building?) But in addition to the huge bank lamps and antique display cases, the store has reproduction items such as tubs, light and plumbing fixtures, and bath accessories that can give a room that whiff of Plaza Hotel.
