I was in here once, and the manager, Eric was beyond rude shouting at me and telling me I had an attitude. Another employee told me, repeatedly to "Get the f-ck out of here." and another told me "You are the kind of person who gets on the internet and complains." I wasn't, but I am now. The bad reviews all around the internet are earned. There are other shops a couple of blocks away, try them instead.
Poor jobs – Brought in 4 times and they were still asking me they need another different parts. Brought into a different shop and they say what they did and told me it is a poor job they did.
Very pleasant horribly inept people – I read the mostly poor reviews but figured I would still give them a try since they were close-ish to my house.
My bottom bracket started making an awful noise. Took my bike in on a Monday evening. Very pleasant manager said he would have the mechanic look at it first thing in the morning and let me know what all needed to be replaced. Called Tuesday and the mechanic hadn't gotten around to it. I called late Wednesday and they confirmed I needed new cups and bearings. They would have to order the parts since they don't stock Campagnolo. Not a problem. They wanted me to come in to leave a deposit for the work to be done. My $5000 bike isn't enough colateral for a $100 repair job??? I said I could just give them my credit card over the phone. They couldn't figure that out. Whatever. Walked to the shop on a beautiful sunny Saturday, paid my deposit (again, really friendly guys) and was told they would order the parts on Monday morning and the bike should be ready by Thursday. I called on Thursday and was told they didn't order the parts until Wednesday and the bike wouldn't be ready until the following Wednesday. No problem as weather was awful and I wouldn't be riding anyhow. They called me the next Wednesday and said that they received the cups, but only one set of bearings - not two. They would call and maybe try and get the second set of bearings sent overnight.. Ummm- no. That didn't happen. I am now on week four of not having my bike, have missed the first two weeks of pre-season training races, and the first gorgeous weekend of Spring. I just called and was just told that the parts are STILL not there. I could have ordered parts online and had them in two days. Can't wait to find out how much they want to charge me for the repair. Will almost certainly never shop here again
It's all about Taj – I was blown away by the service I received from Taj at Gotham Bikes. I started my search online, but the bike I wanted had to be ordered through the store. When I called and they didn't have the bike I thought I wanted available, Taj began guiding me through the process of purchasing the right bike for my husband. As a biking novice, it was incredibly helpful to have some one as patient and knowledgeable as Taj provide the information and advice I needed to make the right choice. I was on the line with him for a good 25 minutes and I never once felt rushed or pushed to purchase. It was awesome. If he hadn't been so helpful, I might have gone elsewhere, because I was pressed for time because it was a birthday gift and they seemed to be out of stock on quite a few models. But his expertise, kindness and customer service really made the difference. Taj hand-delivered the bike to Brooklyn and even helped me keep it a surprise by sneaking/delivering it down to our basement. You just don't find people this dedicated to customer service anymore. If you go to Gotham, Taj is your man. The best bicycle sales and service in town.
Worst customer service. – This is one of those places that makes you wonder why they are still in business. If you don't want to give your customer's the time of day, then what use are you. If I didn't need assistance I would just order online.
This place is way overprced. For components, expect to pay at least double. I went with a list of things I wanted to order, but I figured I'd get it through them and have them install it. First, gettting them to look the parts up in the computer was like asking to name their first born. How dare I. Onve they looked it up, the prices were almost double throught the only source they would check. I ended up ordering the parts myself and getting them installed by another bike shop. Saved hundreds of dollars.
Don't patronize this place. Maybe the owner will get the message and get employees who give a crap.
Honest and Kind – So I had an accident on the West Side parkway and a different bike store told me my wheel was shot, had to be replaced/special ordered, and it would cost me 150 dollars. I called around looking for this "special" wheel and Gotham had it: but not only that, when I brought my bike to them, they WERE ABLE TO true the wheel (instead of replacing it) and charged me 20 bucks for it! Plus it took them a half hour on a very busy Saturday. Yay Gotham Bikes!
don't use these guys – i started taking my bike to gotham because it's near my house, and who likes to walk your bike all the way across town to get it fixed? their only pro is proximity. the guys there rude and don't even know what they're doing. or they do and they just try to get you to spend more money... i had a flat tire that they supposedly fixed... changed the tube but didnt clear the obstruction, so i just got another flat. which they then recommended to me that i get a new tire (when it was their fault for not having cleaned out the obstruction). then after all of that, they returned the bike to me and the gears were all messed up! i have a three speed and first gear wouldnt stay put.. kept clicking into second. i took it back, they said they fixed it but they didnt. then they gave me the run-around again and told me that i needed new gears! in the end i called the lovely man from whom i bought the bicycle and he is fixing it all for me for a fraction of what gotham would charge.. and he also says that they had no idea what they were talking about. long story short- these guys are jerks and can't even fix a bike.
Don't shop here! – There are one or two decent workers there BUT the management is dishonorable and so is the owner. I sent him an email regarding a credit that they owed me and they NEVER even responded to me. How rude!
They Really Don't Want Your Business !! – I had a problem with Gotham Bikes where I returned some merchandise and they gave me store credit. They said I did not need any receipt and that my credit amount would " stay in the system" . II didn't need anything for over 2 years and when I tried to get the credit they said they changed the system and that my credit was wiped out. I understand that it was a while before I used the credit but they wouldn't budge on even trying to work out anything and in essence said " screw yourself" . They really don't seem to care about trying to keep customers . When I asked how I could reach the owner the manager said he couldn't even reach him so I would have no luck. We tried to email anyway but got no response. In addition they said the system has been updated several times and several people had been screwed out of store credit. Their prices are exhorbitant anyway so it's just as well as I find somewhere else to go. Beware.
AWFUL SERVICE – If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Pathetic, horrible bike shop. The service was an absolute joke, I waited around for 45 minutes, even attempting to flag people down, yet no one offered any help. Finally the one person who did offer to help appeared to know absolutely NOTHING about bikes, and I don't intend to be judgemental but...by the looks of the rest of the employees, overweight...I didn't imagine many of them rode bikes either. Not at all helpful, poor selection of bike accessories. Waste of time.
