“good place for the knowledgeable”
“The bigger stores were very much department like - with pushy staff and overpriced jewelry.”
“The price was also very good.”
Most beautiful jewelry I've seen in NYC!. The ladies who work there were absolutely fabulous. They were all very helpful and sweet. I was looking for a pair of great diamond earing and they showed me the most beautiful pair. I'm definitely a big fan of this place and will be going back for all my jewelry needs, I highly recommend it!
Great place to treat yourself!. I recently moved to New York City from California. Not being familiar with the area and wanting to splurge for my big 40th birthday, I went to all the "big brand" jewelry stores. Being a jewelry lover, I was looking for something really special that was within my budget. The bigger stores were very much department like - with pushy staff and overpriced jewelry. By chance, walking down Madison Avenue, I spotted a small, boutique like (very San Fran) jewelry store. My experience was so wonderful that it prompted this review! Their jewelry selection was one of the best that i have ever seen - really cool pieces! The sales woman (amazingly also from CA) was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - she made me feel right at home. End result, I bought a gorgeous yellow gold wrap necklace AND a blue topaz ring. I guess when bonus time rolls around, I am definitely coming back!!
Editorial Review. Soho retailer of stunning jewelry, engagement rings and wedding bands; features online shopping.
Engagement ring heaven!.
My girlfriend and i (now fiancee) visited every jewelry store in Manhattan from Tiffany's to Graff when a mutual friend recommended we go to Soho Gem. We were pleasantly surprised to find a very large selection of engagement rings. Immediately we fell in love with two rings and made an appointment with the diamond sales assistant. To our surprise they did not ask for a deposit to view stones (as did other stores). The diamond sales assistant was extremely informed and helped us understand all the details listed in the GIA certificate.
Since the rings we picked were designed by the in-house designer we were able to combine the two we liked to get a custom made ring. All of the staff was friendly and made a seemingly stressful experience (at least for the guy) easy and enjoyable. We are definitely returning for our wedding bands!
My only regret is that we did not go to Soho Gem first. It would have saved us a lot of time. By the way, only the downtown location has engagement rings.
a good place for the knowledgeable. When I stumbled into soho gem I immediately saw a beautiful ring. There were definately imperfections in the stone, but I had not seen such a well crafted ring -- even at much higher prices. There was a good deal of attention to detail and the whole ring left quite an impression. The price was also very good. When I went back the next day I decided to look at the piece carefully. I was surprised to be told that the center stone, a sapphire, had not been treated for color or clarity. I had done my homework and knew that at this price point that could not possibly be true. I asked to have that in writing -- a request which was, of course, refused. Nevertheless, the piece was stunning so I decided to buy it. I guess wherever you shop you have to know what you are getting!
