Ask for Heidi!!. Tortola is a very low key and pleasant salon. Heidi is, by far, the best stylist out there. She is attentive, insightful and has an incredible memory. If I bring in a picture of a hair style, she is able to replicate it perfectly.

I get compliments on my hair everywhere I go - from complete strangers on the subway to neighbors at home. I highly recommend Tortola Salon, but most importantly, Heidi is the reason why!

Found the perfect hair salon. I used to dread getting my hair done (weird cuts, weird colors, stylists with attitude) but have been happy since I started going to Tortola many years ago. Both Tom and Jo are great people. They give good cuts, good color that lasts and doesn’t damage my hair, and good advice about what works and what doesn’t. I brought my teen-aged daughter there when she over-peroxided her hair and they saved it. The salon is comfortable and pleasant. I highly recommend Tortola.

Michael is an artist. I have been going to Michael for about a year now. He is the only stylist I have ever had where I was confident enough in his judgment to walk in and say "I totally trust you do whatever you want with my hair."

Even though I have moved out of the neighborhood, I will continue to use Michael for as long as I live in New York.

A terrific place for all things hair. I have been going to Tortola for some 15 years and can"t imagine going any where else. Jo cuts and colors my hair--beautifully--and is a lovely person to deal with on every level. I feel privileged to be a Tortola client.

Best High Quality Men's Haircut in Manhattan. Tortola is an amazing salon. The ambience is very welcoming and the staff are very personable and professional. I have personally been coming to see Joey at Tortola since 2005. After living in the city for more than 9 years, I have finally found a reliable, consistent, high quality men's stylist. So much so, I've been dedicated to him ever since. Unlike other shops, Joey specifically tailors each cut, provides recommendations on hair trends, and is honest if the style you choose is not for you (thank god, as he has saved me from embarassment many times). The salon comes highly recommended, as well as Joey!

haircut. Joey's my go-to guy for men's haircuts. He's ever reliable, gets the hair cut done quickly while actually giving you a pretty good haircut without the chopped-up look that other salons or shops end up doing with men's hairstyles. Very highly recommended.

With Deep Gratitude. I went to see Joe at the recommendation of a friend. I had had my hair colored at a different salon and whatever the guy did, he made my hair MATTE! Yes, MATTE!. Imagine my horror when after giving a lecture in front of 50 people my friend told me I had the worst hair color ever! Ug. She told me about Tortola Salon and told me to go see Jo. Well I did, and I'm glad I didn't waste any time. Not only did Jo salvage my hair color, but he salvaged my self-esteem. I will only EVER go to Jo for my hair color. In this turbulent world, it is so nice to know there is something and someone one can rely on.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. I always look forward to my appointments with Jo. He does an amazing job with my color - I've been having my hair colored for over ten years, but get more compliments in the past year that I've been going to Jo than ever before. He really cares about the health of my hair and is very attentive to my needs. i would recommend him to anyone (but if they keep me from getting appointments I'm definitely going to get mad, so... :)). very trustworthy and impeccable taste, for anyone in need of a change.

Color, Cuts & Conversation. After having tried a number of salons I was thrilled when I finally found Tortola. From my experience Jo, an owner, is the best at Color, Cuts and Conversation. He always considers my ideas about my hair and about the variety of topics we discuss. Also, my husband gets a great haircut from Tom, also and owner.
