Reply to following post.. The following reviewer is a person who was asked not to return to our salon for a number of reasons. She did not have her haircut here as stated. Nothing that she said reflects the style, atmosphere and clientele of our salon.

We have a great client base, from the youngest to the oldest who love coming here. We are happy to work on all of them.

This review was written with malice not the truth.

For the much older set. I would recommend this place to my grandmother. The owners do not in any way attempt to try to gear the service or styles to anyone younger. They advertise as a friendly Tribeca neighborhood salon but it was not friendly at all if you are not in the owners age group. I made a few attempts at some conversation but I was made to feel very uncomfortable. Major generation gap I guess.

The color and cut I got at Tortola (by each of the owners) were also very "old school". The prices were not high but just standard and should be much lower for what you get there. I had to have both my cut and color corrected elsewhere so it ended up costing quite a bit.

best color and cut. Jo Castagna, an owner, is an artist of hair color-my highlights are amazing! His cuts are meticulous. All of my friends now go to him. Lovely person, discusses what you want, really works with you. I've been going to Tortola for 25 years.

Ask for Joey. I've had my own hair cut by Joey for years and have recommended him to many friends and family members who have all been repeat customers as well. He can handle any look: long, short, clean-cut, punky, whatever you are going for.

Great find in Tribeca. I have been going to Tortola for a couple of years now, and am very pleased with the way that Joey cuts my hair. He encouraged me to let it go "natural", and enhance my curls without a lot of daily styling time and effort needed. I'm sure that he's just as talented with other types of hair.

Joey is great at any length!. Joey has been cutting my hair for several years much to my delight. He has cut my hair short, helped me grow it longer and even shaved my head during chemotherapy! Joey has cut my wigs, also long and short. He is very detail oriented and no hair goes unnoticed! Joey is honest and LISTENS which is helpful in select the right style for any occasion. Thanks Joey, you are a true pro.

Best Color. Ive just gotten the best color Ive ever had!! I went to Tortola Salon and had my hair colored by Michael. He was great. He gave me a few different choices and suggestions. We decided to darken my color to a deep brown and the he put in a sprinkling of highligt around the face. It was exactly what I needed and my husband loves it and he doesnt usually notice.. lol. I couldnt be happier.

great place , recommended!. i went here today for the first time because the salon was recommended to me by a friend.

i asked for heidi but since she was booked all day i got michael who was super nice and friendly and we both came to a decision about my hair.

there was a bit of confusion when i booked because i was accidentally placed on the cancellation list instead of the normal list, but i was offered a spot 30 minutes later so i didnt mind coming back.

it turns out they also have teen rates, $45 for wash/cut/blowdry so it was a really good deal for me!

highly recommended, i'm definately going back here next time.

Great price ~ Great haircut!. Michael is awesome. He really knows a woman's head... great haircut all around. I would definitely recommend him!

Not great. Went there because my friend recommended it. I wanted something fun but left with a soccer mom haircut. Didn't know how to properly style curly hair.
