“My husband and I went to all the MB branches: Downtown, Midtown and Uptown on this same day:) I love their cake display on a table which gave the ambiance more like a country store.”
“We have always been huge fans of Magnolia, so when we got married we had a cupcake tree instead of a wedding cake.”
“Paired with an ice cold tea or coffee and you will be in CUPCAKE HEAVEN!”
“magnolia's other desserts may be better, but their cupcakes aren't tasty.”
“They have a nice variety of cheesecake but my girlfriend can make better.”
“great cupcakes -- but this place has lines out the door and this is new york I hate waiting on lines to begin with.”
“don't think I'll come back to Magnolia Bakery, mainly because I was really turned off on the service and the dry cupcakes.”
“Staff were friendly and helpful!”
“Nothing bad to say about this place-- it's just average style food at absurd prices.”
“The service is always slow and staff don't take their job seriously.”
This place is just amazing because the crew that work here are such good people. They are very professional and polite. The bread is not that bad too.
I love Magnolia Bakery!! They make the best red velvet cakes here. Their cupcakes are also very delicious! Highly recommend everyone try it out.
I've tried the Magnolia Baker quite a few times. The first time the cupcakes were pretty good but the icing was too sweet. The second time the cupcakes were just dry. It's not a horrible place and it's ALWAYS busy. I don't think I'd go there again, I prefer 'Crumbs' now. I'm just not sure what the huge hype is about them. It was just okay for me.
I have been to Magnolia Bakery at
Bloomingdales twice now. I can honsetly say I will never go back. The first time I was picking up cupcakes from a "fancy NYC bakery" to bring to my girlfriends 3 children. First they didnt even have half of the listed flavors, then no fancy tin to carry them in. I was given my cupcakes in a box and literally asked if I wanted a bag? How do they expect me to carry half a dozen cupcakes? When the kids had then them that evening, I was actually embarressed that they were so dry and basically hard. The second time I went I decided everyone deserves a second chance. This time which was last night around 7pm, the place was busy, but I didnt wait at all. Most people were on line buying drinks. Ok so the guy behind the counter took way too long to address me, because he was chatting with a co worker. I stood there looking around like a fool until I said excuse me. Only one cupcake was actually labeled in the display and it was a peanutbutter flavor. Next to it was a dark brown cupcake with white frosting and I asked if it was chocolate. The guy looked at me like I was an idiot and said "yeah" inbetween his conversation with a co worker. I then asked for one chocolate and one peanutbutter. I paid my 7 dollars and went home. To my dismay not only did I not get the chocolate or peanut butter, I was given 2 Gingerbread flavor. They were disgusting I am sorry to use such a vulgar word but really. They were the most dry, stiff, nasty cupcakes I have ever had. I do not recommend this place. Go to Sprinkles or Crumbs or even Food Emporium and get their brand, these were atrocious. I will never go back.
Note to Magnolia if you are going to have an upscale bakery, selling expensive gourmet cupcakes you might want to try having your employees take better care of the customers, the word "yeah" should not exist in this type of place. His response should have been "yes maam, how many can I get you today" with a smile.
I recently visited Magnolia's on
Bleecker street and again was very disappointed with the service. I say again because this is the third time I have had the same experience. The people behind the counter are disengaged and rude! You literally can stand in their presence while they engage in personal conversation and ignore the customers. When I asked for a box for the cupcakes the attendant looked annoyed that I interrupted her conversation and the young man behind the register, with long unkept hair and pants falling off his hips, not once made eye contact and when I said "please & thank you" I did not once get a reply.
I will never set foot in that store again and will discourage others also!
I strongly recommend the one on Columbus avenue. Service is great and they always have tasters available!
WAYYYY over rated, cup cakes. Yesterday I stop by Magnolia at Bloomgindales, to get Banana Pudding. 8 people behind the counter and no one could aske me or the other person next to me if we need help. They just talk aamong their self and makes us wait. I left, of course. If they don't want my business I certainty don't want theirs.Went to Payard and have a great french Macarroon instead! :-)
Great cupcakes!. I recently visited my daughter in NYC and developed a taste for Magnolia Bakery hummingbird cupcakes! I was not enamored with the Bleecker Street location. I found the staff at this location to be absolutely rude. The young man at the register didn't speak to me at all. In fact, he ignored me. He was busy talking to another employee about the number of tourists who come to this location. "Don't they know the shows over! And it doesn't help that the Friends apartment is just over there!!" Silly me....I suppose i just fell off the turnip truck because I didn't realize this location was made famous by Sex in the City....one of my all time favorite shows! For some reason the cupcakes just didn't taste very good that day. Besides that they only had three choices-chocolate, vanilla and lemon.....not my favorite flavors. On a positive note-try the Bloomingdale's location. They are very friendly and helpful and welcome your business. They have lots of choices and their cupcakes just taste better! : )
best cupcakes ever!. The cupcakes in Magnolia have just the right amount of frosting and it's never too sweet unlike some other dessert joints in nyc. I like to stop by after work and get a box of cupcakes once in a while to share with my neighbors.
