WTF?. WTF happened to this place. Granted I was unimpressed the first time I visited Magnolia, but something has definitely happened to the quality of what they define as "cupcakes" at this place. My friend brought me some red velvet cupcakes and I am convinced that they were no more than some basic cake batter mix with food coloring and butter cream frosting. "Butter Cream!!!" Someone please send them a recipe, or for you folks at the bakery, if you run out of true ingredients, don't try to pass them of as red velvet. Those of us who have had good ones before know what to expect. Magnolia is riding on reputation and that ride is bumpy, slowing down, and heading for a cliff. I say good riddance! Your distain for your customers is sure to be reciprocated.

SOOOOO over-rated!. DRY cupcakes and sickeningly sweet frosting. Try Alice's, Billy's or a piece of cardboard. All are better than these overrated cupcakes.

And staff has a little attitude problem to boot. No thanks!

Magnolia Bakery - mmm good. The perpetually long lines might be due to the bakery's "Sex and the City" fame, but don't understimate These desserts have a cultish following, and it's easy to understand why--nothing on the menu administers anything less than a spectacular dose of sugar. Addictive red velvet cupcakes come slathered in an icing that's as pure an expression of sugar, vanilla and butter as you're going to find. Or try a slice of the decadent "cherries jubilee," a moist mini cheesecake or the legendary banana pudding.

I've been eating Magnolia cupcakes since they've opened, but had taken a 2 year or so hiatus.

I would have loved to give this 5 stars, but Customer Service is really important to me.

I heard about this place in the West Village that all the celebrities and models go to. I am a cupcake freak and was a little skeptical that I would be disappointed, as oftern the situation is that there is hype about a certain product or place, and then it turns out that it really wasn't worth the hype. But curiousity got the best of me, and one Saturday morning i decided to trek down to Bleecker Street and try one of these famous cupcakes. Well the line was long, which was a bit frustrating, but , alas, the cupcakes were absolutely divine, pure heaven. I got two chocolate ones and could easily have eaten three or four more. I do not know what the bakers at Magnolia do, but whatever they are doing, its working!! Keep up the good work guys!!

Frosting Too Sweet, Dry Cake. The frosting is so sweet, I scraped mine off my cupcake. Cake itself was pretty dry.

Not impressed even a little bit!

Completely Overrated!. This was a total disappointment! My friends and I were in the West Village and decided to stop by and try the famous cupcakes. So glad we didn't make a special trip out here. There was very little selection (only 3 or 4 different types when I was there) and although they weren't horrible, there was absolutely nothing special about Magnolia Cupcakes. Definitely not worth the trip or the $2.75 per cupcake.

HORRIBLE CUPCAKES. WORST CUPCAKES I'VE EVER HAD!!! I was visiting NYC and so excited to try the cupcakes at Magnolia. Bought 3 dozen to take home with me to share with friends and family. Got in the taxi, opened box, tasted one and almost spit it out. DRY, DRY, DRY and tasteless. Also, staff was rude and snooty. Such a disappointment.

SO disappointed!!. Been trying to get to Magnolia for months...finally went today and it was such a let down....the cupcakes were dry, DRY I tell you. The frosting on the red velvet was nice b/c it wasn't your traditional cream cheese frosting, and the cake itself was a gorgeous red, but it was not moist at all. Also tried the pistachio, and chocolate and both were very dry. So bummed- my fave is still Sprinkle's in LA, and I hear it's coming to NY so look out for that! Butter Lane's was good, Buttercup was dry, and Crumb's was decent.....! Haven't got to Bill's or Amy's yet- how are they??

ok but not as good as I thought. I really wanted to pass by magnolia and buy myself one of their famous cupcakes.

The place looks great but the staff is not so nice. There was hardly anty customer there (3 or 4) so not that busy for the cashier. However, they really reminded me of the french waiters, having no interest in making customers feel welcome. This was a strange experience in New York where you are treated so nicely wherever you go.

I believe that the place is overated due to Sex & the city. I believe the whole experience would have been great if the staff would have been nice.
