Great tea shop.. Really interesting shop. Non-Hipster workers. Great selection.

Best Place For Tea in NYC. An amazing selection of loose and packaged teas. I've usually shyed away from loose teas as I prefer the convenience of the bags. McNulty's got me to change my mind. After spending a good 45 minutes browsing over their tea selection I decided on two different teas to take home. A 1/4 of their finest black: Golden Monkey and a 1/4 of my favorite combo: Chocolate mint. I brewed both last night and they are both amazing, quality teas.

Friendly service and a great atmosphere - I'm a customer for life.

THE coffee and tea shop. Say what you will about other places, but McNulty's Specialty Teas and Coffee, at 109 Christopher Street in New York City is as close to a real time machine as one can get. At least a time machine absent any selector dial or switch ? this time machine takes one back a hundred years give or take ten; no more.

Suffice it to say that your local gourmet store cannot approach the variety nor quality of the precious beans found here; even the really fussy places who've treated themselves to a Probst coffee roaster (one of the world's finest bulk roasting machines for coffee beans). As for tea, they've got the whole city beat by a mile. And this wonderful selection and sublime sensual experience can be had at a fair price; nothing in the regular catalog exceeds $25 per "quarter;" a quarter pound; the preferred measure for purchasing a week's worth of good tea for two.

On our first visit, we admitted to the gentleman who walked over and offered assistance that we were probably novices compared to the usual customers of the store. That's when this lovely gentleman nearly literally took me by the hand and showed us around the store. He then asked specifics.

How courteous that when I inquired about Peppermint tea the sales clerk warned that there was Oolong mixed in and that it contained caffeine. This marked the beginning of a wonderful relationship. I told him that caffeine was one of the few vices I allow myself any longer and if it's there, so be it. My first "quarter" bought! Upon hearing that he became even more passionate about his product. We asked about a fine Earl Grey; they insinuate the bergamot oil themselves, into the finest Oolong. My second "quarter." At this point I realized that I'd have enough tea for a Texas debutantes' society Sunday afternoon soiree, so I slowed down.

The Real McCoy. I was introduced to McNulty's in the early 70s when I married and moved from the Midwest to the NY Metropolitan area. My in-laws are native New Yorkers and they brewed great coffee, which was dubbed "The Real McCoy." Our family moved away from the area years ago, but whenever we are in the "neighborhood" McNulty's is on the list of places to shop.

Over the decades, the staff has always been professional, ready to pour, weigh, package and, if necessary, grind the beans of your choice.

Best Coffee. McNulty's has been a regular find in my pantry. I love their coffee and teas. This is by far a first-class location to get my addiction. The Ethiopian Mocha is by far my favorite coffee, and the McNulty's Earl Gray is a fav as well. I highly recommend a visit to this historic location in the West Village.

Throwback West Village emporium offers coffee, tea and NYC history.. In Short
Everything's up-to-date on neon-flecked Christopher Street, but inside McNulty's Tea & Coffee, it's perpetually a sepia-toned 1895. That's the year this legend went into business, purveying an astounding range of exotic coffees and teas to the people of New York. Aesthetically, little has changed since--yellowed signs and sealed jars lend an air of Old-World apothecary care, as does the avid and expert attention given to each purchase.

the best coffee in town. If you like strong coffee, buy some Douwe Egberts dark roast here. Being from the Netherlands myself I am probably biased, but this is really the best coffee: even when using a lot of it, the coffee remains smooth, not bitter, with a very full taste.
