Great bistro food. Long lines and tiny tiny place., however, the staff was very patient with us- we were a large group with 5 then 7-- no wait, 5 of us. An extra table was put together for us. We ordered these entrees- mussels in saffron broth, chicken in a pastry (citysearch won't let me write po* pie), steak frites ( I think the sirloin) and fish-- don't remember the name of the fish dish. Well everyone was very happy with their dish. I always have mussels at bistro places and these mussels were quite good. Not as good as Cafe des Bruxelles (on a good day) but right next to it. My friend who ordered the chicken is a very finicky eater and doesn't normally eat meat but she was happy with her dish. So, in the words of Sacha Baron Cohen, I'd say Tartine was "great success!"

Best Eggs Flourentine in Manhattan. I have been to many of the best restaurants in the Manhattan/Hoboken areas for breakfast and I must say that this is hands down the best breakfast (brunch) I have ever had. I am obsessed with eggs flourentine and have been let down ever since the day I experienced Tartine's eggs flourentine. The hollandaise is homeade to perfection, the poached eggs are always done just right, and the crispy potatos with chives and tomatoes are the perfect complement to an already perfect dish. I have never left "smelling" like the restaurant- as one person claimed, and in about 10 years it has never let me down. It is a hidden jem.

The Euro is Weak, so stay local, a flight to paris is long anyway. I went here for brunch and it is now 6PM and I am STILL talking about how amazing my omelet was. Potatoes and vegetables on the side were unreal! My fellow dinner and I were thoroughly impressed by this food. They sit you down with a cup of OJ, which I thought was cute and different. Only complaint was that the OJ was not fresh squeezed. My fellow diner thought they should have had bread on the table. It is a french restaurant. It actually came out hot, which is a rare occurrence with restaurants today. This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. It was a quant atmosphere, very french. Tiny restaurant with very little room to move, but that is what gives this place charm. I really want to go back for dinner. Highly recommended! I want to go back!

My clothes reaked of this place for at least a week!. A disgusting experience...don't sit inside! your clothes will smell for a week afterwards. the eggs benedict were gross -- the yolks hard, the english muffins stiff as boards; and the waiter was SO rude when we asked for new eggs. bottom line: if you go sit outside and don't go on a saturday or sunday for brunch -- the kitchen can't take the crowds and execute the food properly.

gotta love BYO. I like to go here on a warm evening, sometimes you can grab a seat outside and pop open your bottle while you wait for a table. The food is good, a standard stand-by.

A west village gem!. Tartine is one of my favorite restaurants. The entrees and desserts are wonderful and I love that it's a BYOB! I've brought many people there and everyone always loves it. I just wish that people loved it a bit less since it can get really crowded...

Extremely rude service. Tartine's food is good - but the service is extremely rude. I'll never go back there again. When I arrived I asked the waitress whether I could just drink a coffee and eat a croissant until my friend arrived and we would have brunch together. The waitress said that it would be okay. However, while I was still drinking my coffee - another waiter asked me to leave because people were waiting outside. I explained him that my friend would arrive in 10 minutes and that we would have brunch together. I also offered to tip well. All of a sudden the waiter started to scream that I could not block the table and that I should wait outside until my friend arrived. I have never been treated like this anywhere - the waiter literally threw me out of the restaurant like a bouncer! I will certainly never return to Tartine again.. There are plenty of restaurants in New York with good food AND friendly staff.

Rude staff and. Just ate dinner there this past Sat (4/21/07) and was very disappointed with the service. It was my second time there but I can honestly say... never again!!! To sum up my experience at Tartine in a nut-shell it was: 1) a long wait 2) a grossly small restaurant with people bumping into your chair every time they pass 3) a rude and poorly trained staff with major attitude 4) a bus boy that thinks its ok to sweep and stack tables right beside you while you're still eating... and 5) a rushed meal where they can seat the next table as quickly as possible.

The fact that the staff get away with being so poor in customer service and common courtesy is mind-boggling and they are not afraid to let you know that they truly don't care either way, just pay them in cash (no credit cards). If you want your dining experience to include any of the above factors, then Tartine is your restaurant. However, if you want good food with a pleasant wait staff then try the million other restaurants in New York.

Croissants are amazing. The regular meals are just fine, but the real standouts are the morning baked goods. These are the best croissants I've ever had, and the brioche is pretty great, too.

Great food for the right price. My boyfriend and I love coming to place. They place is alway packed in the summer and I think all year round too. We always start out with a salade basquaise-arugula, appetizer- escargot and main course would be the grilled sirloin steak (with red wine bordelaise sauce) with french fries (great fries....they are so good) and dessert-Chocolate marquise. All was yummy!! Been going here for years and was never disappointed and don't forget to bring your own wine. This place is a must to test for.
