The Scene – In the eye-popping interior, coated with hokey, glittery pop art from Mexico and the Southwest, the spirited waitstaff somehow manages to keep their wits about them as they serve American-Mexican to bachelorette parties and other celebrating groups. – – The Food – Surprisingly tasty dishes, such as the New Mexican short stack--made with blue-corn pancakes, black beans, shredded beef (or chicken or veggies) and melted cheese on top. Good, fresh-tasting burritos come slathered in a chili sauce available in three grades of spice. Pitchers of margaritas are…

Stop in on Mondays and Tuesdays for raucous rounds of bingo (definitely not for blue hairs). Or hula-hoop for t-shirts on Wednesday nights.

  1. The place is really fun, especially on bingo nights, trivia nights, hula hoop nights and name-that tune nights.
  2. This place is definitely fun, but if you come, come for the atmosphere and drinks, not the food.
  3. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and we got free shots of tequila!
  4. With the somewhat tacky over-the-top decor (lights and velvet paintings) and the super friendly staff you can't help but have a great time at this place.
  5. No attitude, good food, fun atmosphere, and strong drinks can't be all bad.
  6. took my friends from Atlanta to Tortilla Flats in hopes of some good food, music, drinks and fun atmopshere.

  1. The tortilla soup was good, but if you ask for a dollup of sour cream, a side of cilantro -- it's like you never left home.

  1. The jukebox is always playing good tunes, and the patrons are never shy about getting up and dancing in the aisles, or even on the bar.
  2. This place is definitely fun, but if you come, come for the atmosphere and drinks, not the food.
  3. If you want a good margarita, go to Teddy's or Temple bar.

  5. No attitude, good food, fun atmosphere, and strong drinks can't be all bad.
  6. few of them will definitely give you a buzz, and they *are* good (nice flavor, sweet but not sickly so) - but the 'ritas at Rodeo bar (27th & 3rd) are definitely the strongest in the city.
  7. Its got the feel of a college bar in the too cool for school hood.

  2. and the food is good too.
  3. The food is excellent.
  4. The one exception to the above rule is my trusty staple on 18th street - Los Dos Molinos - tasty food (as long as you like it spicy) and fishbowl-sized margaritas.
  5. We didn't eat here just had pitchers of Margarita's, which were delicious, and played bingo.
  6. Load up on the La Bomba burrito with chipotle sauce, guzzle a pitcher of their tasty margaritas and get ready for a wild evening of bingo.
  7. The food was great, service was great and the marg's.
  8. Order the chile con queso which is absolutely delicious and then I get the chicken fajitas
  9. This place is definitely fun, but if you come, come for the atmosphere and drinks, not the food.
  10. Oh, no pico de gallo at this joint, but the salsa is very good.
  11. For a very tasty meal for under ten bucks and a very drinkable $30 pitcher of margaritas, I would go back.
  12. That bottled green sauce is so delicious (not too spicy and very tasty) and I have only been able to find it at the mexican specialty shop called Kitchen in Chelsea.
  13. Plus, their food is awful and I've heard they have a rodent problem.
  14. The food is surprisingly good considering the prices are relatively cheap for the area.
  15. I'm from Texas and I know good Mexican food and Tortilla Flats' food is delicious, especially the Mole Shrimp enchiladas that they make for me because I don't eat chicken, and the big soft shrimp tacos are my second favorite.
  16. have been looking for good - or even satisfactory - or even PASSABLE - Mexican food since I've been in NY (granted, only 2 months) - and have finally found it.
  17. special (alas) but so good, it reminded me of my favorite sauces at Chuy's back in Texas:) The Chicken Verde was also good, the beans were tasty, and the salsa, though not spicy enough for my preferences, was fresh and actually good - actually tasted li
  18. wasn't impressed with the food but really enjoyed the bingo and hula hooping!
  19. And I'd have to say that my friends would disagree with one of the former reviews that said the beans were good.
  20. No attitude, good food, fun atmosphere, and strong drinks can't be all bad.
  21. The food was pretty good though.
  22. The food was eh, salsa was pretty good and the margaritas were average to good but on the sweet side.
  23. Good food but non-hip crowd
  24. The tortilla soup was good, but if you ask for a dollup of sour cream, a side of cilantro -- it's like you never left home.
  25. The food is your typical cheap mexican - refried beans and cold yellow cheddar cheese.
  26. Douse your fajitas with some of the delicious bottled green sauce that they keep on the table and if it is not there

We like to meet for Monday Bingo. Really fun bartender (Fabrizio). Long time between games, though.

MARGS!

Very cute place in the village. Popular without the pretentious feel many other bars in this area give off. I loved playing bingo at the tables, and the staff is wildly entertaining! Great time.

Solid, cheap Mexican

by prlgirl , Citysearch Contributor

Tortilla Flats is the staple cheap eats spot in the meatpacking. Its got the feel of a college bar in the too cool for school hood. Went here on a random week night and sat outside in this dive resto and had a blast. Any place that sells pitchers of margaritas is ok in my book. Noshed on chips, guac and salsa. Then we split a Mexican short stack (I remember tortillas and cheese) and an enchilada verde which was also drowned in cheese. Its gluttony at its best. I hear they play bingo inside but it was too nice of a night to be indoors no matter how kitschy it is. Solid, cheap Mexican makes for a fun night.

  • Pros: pitchers of margs, outdoor seating
  • Cons: bathrooms

What a blast!

by JGdozen

Came here last night with a group of friends. First time and I had a lot of fun! We didn't eat here just had pitchers of Margarita's, which were delicious, and played bingo. My whole table won free shots of tequila. Lot of fun and great crowd of people!

Fun place to come with a group of fun and just get tipsy!

Simple but exciting

by JCgelo

Just another typical mexican joint in the city. I wasn't impressed with the food but really enjoyed the bingo and hula hooping! My table won bingo about 3 times so we were happy with the shots we received.

Fun for a group or date but don't expect anything tasty to eat!

  • Pros: Games and free shots
  • Cons: Food wasn't so great
