Had a blast at automatic slims. had my party here and my friends were talking about it for weeks. they were very accomadating, played great music, and gave as an awesome deal. I will be having a few more parties here!

Don't go! Wallets stolen while here.. I've been here a few times with friends and we've had ok nights (kind of crowded and the bartenders are forgetful and not super friendly..the music is fun though). BUT, most recently on a Saturday night I had my wallet stolen from my purse which was ON MY SHOULDER. Unfortunately I didn't have it zipped up (my fault). I'm slightly suspicious of the bouncer because at one point he was getting way to close to my face, being creepy and trying to strike up conversation. About a month earlier another friend had her purse gone through here. She noticed it was missing, told the bar staff and come to find it was in the bathroom, with everything dumped on the floor and her wallet and phone were stolen. I really don't know why we went back after that. A stupid mistake!! Its really not that great of a place to risk having your stuff stolen. There are better bars in the village! Go there.

Great NYC bar, but.... Weeknights this is a great Greenwich Village neighborhood bar--great food, great bartenders, great music, cool atmosphere. On Fridays and Saturdays, it goes crazy--it's an infamous NYU hook-up bar. All the bad reviews reflect the fact that people come here, get drunk, lose their credit cards, go home with the wrong person--on the weekends. The rest of the time, it's a very cool place (okay, occasionally you get yuppie jerks in groups from Wall Street, but they're all extinct, right?).

WORST BAR IN WEST VILLAGE. This is the worst bar in the west village, period. College bar atmosphere, 90% stupid New Jerseyites "getting crazy", fights break out like kids do, avoid like the plague.

A desperate scene: people try SO hard, staff is RUDE. I was at Automatic a few weeks ago, and was totally repulsed by the scene. It's a combination of self-important wannabe "socialites", tourists, over-eager men, and a colossally RUDE staff. The guy at the door was a creeper (level 10!) who let me and my sister in, but then AFTER we had gone in, but knowing we were all together, told my boyfriend that there were too many guys, and he would see what he could do... we argued a bit, and since we involved the other people on line my boyfriend got in, but I'm sure a $20 would have helped things, if only I had one to spend after paying for drinks. To be honest, I'm fairly willing to over-pay for my drink in NYC bars/clubs because it goes with the territory. but in this place I really begrudged the bartender for the watery drink because he was overly curt and gave us a mean look for only tipping $2 a drink. I know there are people who love Automatic Slims but I hope I never, never ever have to go here again. Oh, and the bathroom is super stank-ass, it smells like old urine, is littered with trash, but no TP in sight. This place used to have a great rep, but right now it's a horrible, desperate scene...although I'm sure they're making a fortune.

the bouncer robbed me. I just posted this on Yelp, as well, but anyway ... Long story short, I was basically robbed by one of the bouncers at Automatic Slims last night. Here's the rest of the story:

I was on a bar crawl last night and ended up at this place. I opened a tab because I didn't have any cash, and sure enough, I left without closing my tab. I jumped in a taxi but suddenly remembered my lack of cash and my credit card still at the bar. So I had the cab take me back and wait outside while I got my credit card.

The bar was busy, so it took about 10-15 minutes to get my card. When I came out, the cab was gone. The bouncer claimed that the cab couldn't wait anymore, and that he (the bouncer) had been forced to pay the cab driver $65 for his time.

Yeah, that's right. $65.

I'm not a tourist. I know how much cabs cost. For 15 minutes of waiting (after driving me around the block once), the fare was probably about $10-15.

But this bouncer, who stands about 6'5", 230-240 lbs, was now telling me that I owed him money. It's worth noting that I was by myself at this point.

I had no cash, so he followed me to the nearest ATM. I kept telling him that I knew he was lying, and he continued to yell that I owed him money. I ended up giving him $40, which he actually accepted.

If the whole thing was legitimate, of course, I'm sure he would have tried to beat the last $25 (that he claimed I owed him) out of me. But since he was scamming me, he was probably happy to walk away with extra money in his pocket without having to try very hard.

For this small amount of money, it wasn't worth going to the cops. But I thought I may as well let the rest of you know what happened.

Anyway, the bouncer is a big guy with long, thin dreadlocks tied up in a bun. He was also one of the "DJ's" who played music from a laptop behind the bar. He's a scam artist.

DON'T bother.... HORRIBLE bouncer. Kicked us out because there were more than one of us in the bathroom at once. was so nasty and ABUSIVE, I should have called the cops. Will never give this place business again and recommend that you don't waste your time, either.
