“Do you like cheap drinks, tasty food, and oh so SASSY bartenders?”
“Service gets slow as the night progresses, but they always try their best.”
Horrible service, rudest waitress ever, long wait. Why go here when there are dozens of bars within a couple blocks with better food, less tacky decor, and wait staff that understand the meaning of service? We reserved a section in the back room for a small party. Arriving early, when the bar was nearly empty, I ordered a beer---it took about half an hour for the beer to arrive. Then, as people were still settling in, the blond waitress repeatedly came over and told us we were not ordering enough drinks. She said they were very busy and we were taking up space---we reserved a large table and it was a Tuesday night! (and we ordered quite a few drinks. We were there about 45 minutes when she started accusing us of not spending enough money. What attitude!) I left early--and left money--and the waitress had the gall to chase after me screaming---she said she wanted to make sure I wasn't stiffing the bill. It's a bar, it's somewhat busy, and of course they want to maximize their profit, but this level of rudeness is really unacceptable in any situation. The positive reviews for the bar must be from staff.
Is this art?. I used to frequent this bar several years ago when I was in my early 20's'. Recently popped in where I found myself transported right out of the chic village and straight to tacky-land. The vibe is chill and the bartenders are cool and friendly. The place is packed with Jerseyfied clients drinking long Island Ice Tea's and Sea Breeze's. Good place to stop in before heading to the MP District as the drinks are strong and cheap despite the crowd. The word is many of the customers are regulars and many are looking to hook up and often do - the back room is full of secrets and missing wedding bands. On any night you can find the bar flies looking to meet a nice guy for the night! Good mixed drinks & decent beer selection.
cozy. A small place with a cozy atmosphere and nice lighting. Comfy half-circle booths and music volume are perfect for conversation. The drinks we had there were good, but strong. Nachos and mini hot-dogs are fantastic!
Great Place for a Party. If you want to have a party where you can actually talk to the people there, have affordable drinks, and eat some good food, Art Bar is the spot. Art Bar is a chill setting with a staff that works tirelessly to make for a seamless night. They were great about following up throughout the entire planning process and their staff, particularly Heather, was spectacular. They really work with you so that you can plan a party that's really special.
Great times, Great people. I am visiting the city this September, and I wanted to see if this place was still here. When I lived in the city I was here EVERY night. The people were great the drinks fantastic. On most nights whether it was slow or busy as soon as I walked in they started making my drink...Long Island Ice Tea (no tequila extra gin). How much better could the service be. To those who complained...try and order something in a bar or throw a tip out first when only ordering water!!! I can't wait to visit Art Bar again!
God, I loved this place. I was just checking the internet to make sure this place was still around. When I lived in NYC I used to go here a lot - GREAT atmosphere and a terrific place to hang out! Anybody complaining about the service isn't going there for the right reason. Never go to any bar to order a water and expect good service -period. Possibly the coolest atmosphere of any bar I've visited and located in a great area of town. Hope to be back soon!
I love Art Bar!. I've been frequenting the Art Bar for years and have never had anything but a positive experience, which is why I wanted to write this. I was surprised to see a few negative service reviews as the staff has always been wonderfully welcoming, including remembering what I drink! One citysearch member complained that a staffer requested that people in is party order more than water. Isn't that a given if you're going out to a place of business? Oh well, if they don't come back that's just more of a chance for me and my friends to get a table on the busy weekend nights. Thanks Art Bar!
Skip this place if you want service...at all. The service at this place HORRIBLE (agree with other users of this opinion). Ten of us sat down for a birthday gathering, seven ordered drinks, and a couple just wanted water. The response from the unhappy, dumpy waitress: "It's okay if some of you don't order drinks, but this is a business, and we're *really* busy tonight, so you have to order *something*. My boss is here, okay? You can't just sit here. So I'll give you a few minutes to think about it." Really busy? Lie. This "boss"? Never appeared. A business? I hope not for much longer. The atmosphere doesn't begin to make up for the way the waitress ruined the beginning of a BIRTHDAY gathering for a friend. I have lived in New York for 21 years and have NEVER encountered such attitude. Art Bar, find some new employees or take the attitude out of New York.
Art Bar has such potential BUT.... the extremely rude, snotty, and flaky servers will ruin your night. The Art Bar seemed like the exact place we were looking for to host a friend's bday party...ample coaches in the backroom, conversations can take place without having to shout over really loud music, decent priced drinks (considering it's right by the Meatpacking District), and an INTERNET Jukebox! But imagine your drinks being served to you by a server who always seems pissed off?!? And one (not both) of the bartenders was a complete beotch! I would suggest going to Art Bar if you have a really, really small group, like 2 ppl. Otherwise, skip it. There are so many other bars that would welcome you and be more happy have you as there customer!
Art Bar. Whether you're looking to eat, just have a drink or relax in a chill lounge-type atmosphere, Art Bar is the place to be. The food is great, the music is good, and the lounge is relaxing. Cool place.
