Editorial Review for Miracle Bar and Grill – by Jessica Branch
The Scene
A dusky, subdued spot on leafy Bleecker Street, Miracle is almost too tastefully understated. The well-stocked bar is appropriately against the back wall of the first room, and there's a separate room off to the side devoted to dining. The Southwestern tchotchkes--quaint but unmemorable--are placed at discreet intervals on the warmly-hued walls, and the tables are artfully positioned just far enough apart for comfort. Service is pleasant, though sometimes a trifle too unhurried.
The Food
Miracle makes no visible claims to rigid authenticity, and its adventures in fusion can be charming. Take the Asian-inflected, ginger-sparked julienned cabbage--unexceptional when it stuffs the spring rolls, it accompanies the catfish tacos appetizer to greater effect. More straightforward entrees--strip steak, enchiladas--often achieve an elegant, flavorful simplicity. But a few baroquely mischievous dishes succeed extravagantly--the fried chicken salad is a dieter's guilty Kentucky-fried pleasure and the sumptuous banana split transcends regionalism.

We had a brunch for 50 people for our daughter's first birthday. I was so pleased with Miracle! The staff was great, and Katherine did a fantastic job planning the event and ensuring we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, the service was prompt, and we weren't rushed at all. We had plenty of room for strollers and a spot for a play space for the kids. We were pleasantly surprised by the bill - it's a very reasonably priced joint, even including mimosas and bloody marys. We brought our own cakes and cupcakes (from Magnolia). I'd definitely recommend this place for group events!

I went here for dinner because I was working in the area and I just wanted to get out of the cold. At first I wasn't all that impressed with the interior. It looked like any generic upscale NYC eatery. The menu didn't seem all that new or unusual - but when they brought my food - I was IMPRESSED. Not your ordinary Tex-Mex. Very interesting combinations. Just when you thought you'd "tasted it all" .... I highly recommend this place. Oh, the wait staff was very friendly and helpful too. The waiter even advised me about the sangria specials they have on Thursday night. So I had $4 Sangrias (which were refreshing) instead of a $10 glass of red wine. Prices are very reasonable for NYC and this neighborhood.
Pros: Prices, Cocktail Specials on Thursday, Very Nice Wait Staff
Cons: None that I can think of.
