“If you are a bald guy who likes to laugh, loudly, be prepared for some friendly exchange with Georgia.”
Arthur's Tavern, Great music, Rude Violent Waittress staff..
This is a very difficult review because the music is great. BUT the staff is very very rude, tuff, thug like and violent if crossed. In a miner dispute over a bill I had my chair pulled out from under me and I fell to the floor. I saw the bartender hit a women over the head because she was touching the condiments tray, She was arrested and went to jail a few days. I never thought that I would ever be subjected to this brutality but I guess if you go there enough your time will come.
Go enjoy the music do not let them run a tab because the drinks are very expensive and the bill can creep up on you.
If You like Live Music and Entertaining Show. Head over to The Griffin to Michael Fredo's Wednesday night party. They have a great show and an open bar from 8-9:30. Free admission too. Michael Fredo with The Benny Reid Ensemble is a great Jazz/ Ratpack show. 50 Gansevoort @ Greenwich
VINCENT MAISANO ~ Daddy,Thankyou For The Memories xo.
The last time I walked into Arthurs Tavern, Nov. 2006. The time before that, I was a young girl.
Brought my Mom back to NY to Celebrate her 75th B-Day. Never thought it would just be her & I. My Father passed away 4yrs after he retired. He died of Cancer in 1996. ~
We go thru life & sometimes take the smallest things for granted. I never imagined walking into Arthurs Tavern without my Dad. Walking in for the 1st time without him & all I had were the Memories of long ago.
Seeing the Old Register behind the bar my Grandpa once had. Looking above the bar, at all the old Decorations Dad, Mom & I put up when I was a lil girl. And the Drums I used to play up on stage as Mable Godwin sang the Blues. Just to hear my Dad yell to me, Donna it's time to go to bed.
Yes, I cannot deny, Arthurs is not the same.
But my Memories don't change. I will say, it was so very comforting to see, my Fathers face, as I left I looked up at the wall. My Fathers picture from the New York Times, as it was so long ago. In the same ole place.
I love you Daddy xoxo
My opinion.
Was only checking this club out(I'm from the UK) and was put off by the reviews but after noticing that there are only 20 reviews over 10 years(inc four bad reviews) I realized that it doesn't seem too bad at all. The fact that so few people have complained in 10 years makes it look to me like this club is OK. I will definitely check it out next time I am in New York. (I travel to the states a few times a year on business.

STAY AWAY. STAY AWAY!!! Totally despicable service. If you want beer to be poured over your head by you server or if you enjoy being spit on, this is the place for you. Because my female! server was threatening me with physical violence, I had to call 911 to be escorted out of the bar. When police arrived, she denied non of it but claimed that it was all an accident. While she was screaming like a banshee, no manager or other staff members showed up to calm her. It must be the culture of the joint. Worst service experience of my life.
Very mellow jazz/blues bar scene.
My wife and I went there on a Tuesday night after a show on Broadway. We had none of the problems others have mentioned with wait staff. We were charged correctly for 4 drinks each at $10 per drink. Gratuity was added, and was appropriate. You can tip musicians as you wish or not.
Music was very good. Dancing was fun. Regulars even danced with a waitress. The later it got (after 1 AM), the younger the crowd got.
Good times.
Nice place to sit back and cool out. I have never had a problem at Arthur's, albeit I do go during the week when tourists(domestic and foreign) have not invaded the place yet. There is a piano lounge setting 6-8?. I really can't blame the staff. I dont believe there is a door cover charge (try finding that in NEW YORK CITY!!!) . Some people want to have one or two drinks, talk BS (not really listening to the music), tie up a table or bar stool for hours and DON'T TIP. or run a decent money tab. They better not do that in front of Ms. Georgia, she will stop music and tell them to STFU
great music bad waitresse.
Today was surreal!!!!!! The waitress actually gave me a dirty look walking without saying anything and was rude with us during all the evening.
THE MUSIC IS GREAT AND THE ATMOSPHERE IS SENSATIONAL.
watch your wallet.
I have been taking people from out of town here for years, touristy by fun. My last experience was that the staff is just looking for ways to make money. Our waitress charged $11 for a drink I always paid $9 for. In addition she short changed me on a $50 bill. The next one charged me a service charge of $9 on $33 worth of drinks, when there is no service charge. I guess they just like to determine their own tips, and they are quite generous.
Try 55 Bar if you want music, I will never return!!
