ambiance
94.44000244140625% positive
  1. Wonderful atmosphere, great food, impeccable service
  2. The atmosphere is relaxed yet elegant, and service was fantastic.
  3. This place has a great atmosphere, but I wouldn't suggested it for the bargain hunter.
  4. Service was good and a pretty nice atmosphere but the whole fish special was not great (not to mention about the size of a sardine).
  5. Excellent food, great service & atmosphere.
  6. Low standard cooking, noisy, comfortable chair except table next to the kitchen
dessert
100.0% positive
  1. The appetizer is over-cooked-burned shrimp, the spaghetti taste like out of a can, and the only dish tasted OK is desert.
drinks

  1. The wine selection as well as the service were very good.
  2. The bar looks like a good place to get a drink after work, but it will be tight.
  3. They have a beautiful dining room, but also a wide open bar area overlooking Madison ave. The same menu is served everywhere and it was a beautiful night, so we decided to sit out in the bar.
  4. The staff is on top of things and seems to have great knowledge of the food served, the wine (there was a HUGE menu) and service steps.
  5. The sommelier recommended very good wines and didn't push the upsell too hard.
  6. Nice selection of wines, friendly staff, impeccably dressed.
  7. was there on a Wednesday (not so busy) and the service was sloooooooow, the food mediocre (too salty), and the wine list unimpressive.
  8. Especially the great wine and food recommendations from our waitress.
  9. Most recentlt was there on a Thursday night they had a great band playing in the bar area--the bartenders were very friendly and accomodating--We had the antipasta appetizer which is put on display as soon as you walk in a very appetizing selection--all o
  10. sat at the bar and had lunch here, a surprisingly pleasant experience.
food quality

  1. Pricey, but good food
  2. can recommend the calamari appetizer, cold lobster salad, and the sea bass.
  3. can now say that this has gone from THE worst restaurant experience I have had in NYC to one of the best in terms of both food and service.
  4. Wonderful atmosphere, great food, impeccable service
  5. Excellent food, great service & atmosphere.
  6. To summarize it all, Salute is over priced, poor tasted food, good service, not recommended for large group and expects to be noisy.
  7. The food was excellent and our server(s) were very professional and attentive.
  8. The food the service outstanding.
  9. My seafood salad was delicious.
  10. The food is perfect (pasta, pizza, tiramisu) - simple and delicious.
  11. The staff is on top of things and seems to have great knowledge of the food served, the wine (there was a HUGE menu) and service steps.
  12. What a pity, because the food is actually quite good.
  13. the place was booming, I haven't seen a crowd for lunch in any restaurant like this but everything ran smoothly was seated quickly great service food was delivered pretty promptly and my clients were very pleased
  14. when i told them the dish was cold they simply took it away and reheated the same dish.
  15. The appetizer is over-cooked-burned shrimp, the spaghetti taste like out of a can, and the only dish tasted OK is desert.
  16. The food is quite good, although I wouldn't call it revolutionary or even excellent.
  17. have dined both lunch and dinner and never had a bad meal at Salute.
  18. was there on a Wednesday (not so busy) and the service was sloooooooow, the food mediocre (too salty), and the wine list unimpressive.
  19. The food was fantastic and the gorgeous Ashara and Mirlanda made us feel so welcome and so special.
  20. Just the olives and large chunks of fresh parmesan cheese served before you start are worth the experience (though the bread wasn't quite as good).
  21. Served cold bread (as they insisted the bread were just off the oven), Campbell soup, and baked chicken which were dried like matchstick.
  22. Definitely should be on the top of your places to go enjoy an evening of Italian cuisine!
  23. Good food, but i still think that when someone orders spagetti with seafood, they would expect a plate with spagetti with the seafood, not a plate of seafood topped with some spagetti!
  24. The food was outstanding - and what a surprise to find out the chef is a contestant on Top Chef!
  25. The main dishes were good, the ravioli de manzo was just ok.
  26. We had none of the usual "large party snafus" like cold food that comes in shifts or lots of forgotten items.
  27. When I asked if I could order some food, the server answered: "If it's not eleven yet!
  28. Horrible food.
  29. The service is good, but the food is very plain.
  30. Especially the great wine and food recommendations from our waitress.
  31. Service was good and a pretty nice atmosphere but the whole fish special was not great (not to mention about the size of a sardine).
  32. probably the most knowledgeble waiter I hve ever had and attentive to all aspects of a diners experience and the food is great too.
  33. Salute boasts some of the best Italian dishes in Manhattan, but with a new twist.
  34. Everyone enjoyed their meal though, which is very hard to accomplish with a party of 22.
  35. $100 for some eggs, a pizza and a bottle of San Pelligrino and bad service is really inexcusable, especially in these difficult economic times.
  36. Overpriced, overrated, and in need of some customer service 101, the food isn't too bad but DEFINITELY not worthy of its prices.
  37. Frankly, the menu was an odd mix of items, most of which were not even remotely Italian and most shocking of all, the bread was inedible!
  38. Everything was quite tasty and I was quite enjoying everything.
  39. The appetizers were delicious and the highlight of the meal.

Horrible place to go to

by robbed patron at Citysearch

I spent new years here with my wife. I had made a reservation for my wife and myself only but yet instead of being charged for two plates at 160 each I was charged $1600.00 and till this day I am having trouble getting my money back. they claim that i have to wait for them to collect the money from another couple in my table so that i can get my money back. A couple whom my wife and i have no connection. Because they failed to charge them adequately i ended up paying 10 x more than what i was suppose to pay and the managers Mateo and Amir go back and forth as to this issue. I don't recommend this place whatsoever, the food was horrible on top of that and they wouldn't serve shots if i already had a drink on my table. This place is horrible. if you don't want to get robbed and served bad food don't go here.

Such a lovely restaurant

I was so surprised and pleased today! My pick of a lunch venue in a part of town that is less than exciting was a big hit! Room was lovely - not noisy - service was attentive and food excellent.I recommend it highly!

With compliments

by Violahenny at Citysearch

I heard somewhere that it was good manners to give a compliment for every criticism.  So here we go:

1.a  Nice ambiance

1.b  We had made reservations based on the web-published Restaurant Week Menu.  We had to request it, were told " it's not Restaurant Week, it's Prix Fixe.". When we were given completely different menu than the web menu: "oh yes that is from last year, we really need to change that"

2.a. Restaurant is flexible with substitutions

2.b. They were out of the pasta I wanted, I was offered a different shape pasta (fine by me) with the recipe intact, then was told 15 minutes later that they were out of the main ingredient in the recipe, and would I like to substitute shrimp for sea urchin? UH, yeah, they taste EXACTLY the same, except for flavor, texture, odor... Other than that, exactly.

3.a. In the summer, a cooling spritz is refreshing

3.b.  An entire glass of water was spilled in my partner's lap by a staff member

4.a. Wild boar (cinghiale) lasagna was very tasty

4.b. Swordfish pasta needed salt, or olives, capers, or lemon zest.... Flavor?

5.a  Clean bathrooms are important

5.b.  The marble floor was nice and slippery after the man mopped it... In the middle of dinner service!?!?!?.....and in his zealousness with the mop the toilet seats were also nice and wet, and in that kind of a restaurant, I don't really need to see the can of Glade on the toilet paper dispenser.

6.a. They gave us a 10% discount on the bill for the experience of wet lap dining, and free espresso.

6.b. They charged me for the original dish I ordered and that they were out of, instead of the one I ended up eating (which was $2 less actually).

7.a. $25 for a glass of wine!!? Bravo!

7.b. $25 for a GLASS of wine!!!!?!?!?

Best brunch in midtown

by Tina4321 at Citysearch

I have recently went to Salute for dinner about a month ago and loved my entire meal from their fresh pasta and orata special. I heard about their brunch menu and had to try it. I came back and tried the eggs benedict. OMGG!! What a classic. Their poached eggs were to die for and the fresh fruit had to be sliced moments before it arrived on my plate. And to top it off a complimentary glass of Prosecco.
