Good French - AWESOME Souffle
by pandacub143
Very homey, cozy, French restaurant where you can tell the regulars from the not. My large party of 7 was in the "not" section - but we had great service, an attentive waitress (she was such a dear), even though I know we were a big group. The place is cramped but the waitstaff were pros at navigating the tiny spaces and making at all work for us. The clientele is a bit on the older side, but our little spirited group didn't seem to bother them.
The food was good, staple French. Nothing that blew me out of the water, but definitely a good in the tummy kind of meal. I had the veal scallopini, but we also sampled the beef stew, hangar steak, scallops, and dover sole. My friends enjoyed the soups and, of course, the baguettes. The wine was also standard, staple, French. Can't really go wrong here.
Hands down though - the best part of the meal was the Chocolate Souffle for two. Yes, its 18$. Yes it looks huge. (My table split it among 6) but I could have eaten 4 of those big boys on my own. Light as air, creamy and smooth, rich yet delicate! I can go on forever. Fantastic.
I'll be back - even if only for souffle.
- Pros: Staple solid French
- Cons: a little cozy.
MOUTHWATERING FRENCH CUISINE
by BellaBaroness
SCRUPTIOUS FOOD MOUTHWATERING..... Everything I have ever eaten there or any guest I have ever had loves the restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't find this place until 10 years ago on a recommendation by my neighbor that I go there for my birthday. I had a great time and enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the waitors and staff. The owners are particularly fun loving frenchmen with impecable taste especially in wine.
They have a very nice wine list at reasonable prices to boot!
TRY IT YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!
La vie en rose! amazing
by blegend26
Amazing food, great service, ambiance to match: ladies and gentlemen this is the genuine article!
It's been around for more than 30 years and we will keep coming back as long as the souffle is on the menu.
La vie en rose is definitely the feeling you get when you dine here. Don't miss it!
- Pros: food, ambience, quality, wine list, price!
- Cons: no outdoor area
Rude Staff / Unsanitary - HAIR IN FOOD - MANAGER SAYS IT HAPPENS
by samanthanyc
My boyfriend and I used to go to this restaurant and we always loved it. However, our last visit was horrible and disturbing. Not only was the service slow and inattentive, but I ended up discovering that they should be inspected by the Board of Health. When we ordered our Chocolate Souffle and asked the waitress to cut it in half for us, she returned with our dessert and my boyfriend's portion had a strand of black hair about 4 inches long stuck in the dessert. We called over the manager, who sat down at our table and began to try to explain that "these things happen". At first he was somewhat polite but then he began to tell us stories of his experiences in other restaurants -how he broke his crown on something foreign in soup and how he found a used band-aid in his meal. He took the hair and said that there was nothing he could do because accidents happen. After we told him that it was unacceptable he walked away and then returned a few moments later. He told us that he checked with his staff and that no one had hair that matched the one found in the dessert and that it probably was mine! I HAVE BLONDE HAIR; NOT BLACK. IF THE MANAGER THINKS IT IS OK TO FIND HAIR, BAND-AIDS, ETC IN FOOD, THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF DIRTY KITCHEN THIS PLACE OPERATES. IT GIVES ME THE CREEPS.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: EXPENSIVE, DIRTY
Worst French Food Ever
by billieshears
This is the worst French meal I've ever had.
The fois gras "special" was cold, pre-packaged mousse. After insinuating that I might not be able to afford a certain entre, the maitre d' brought me a strip steak instead of the filet I ordered. And it was incredibly expensive.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Condescending staff, bad food, too expensive.
