“bartenders are fun and friendly and thursday nights are quiz nights when the fun really begins.”
“Best pint of Guinness in the city, amiable bar staff, gregarious patrons, great jukebox, book readings every Wednesday, Pub Quiz every Thursday and the Celtic/Hip-Hop stylings of Seanchaí and the Unity Squad every Friday”
“don't remember much else, except that I had fun, and that the bartenders are great!”
great customer service. we were there this summer and stayed down the street in the ramada. we were there 10 days and spent every evening at rocky's. we really enjoyed it and the bartenders chris and rachael. it is a very friendly place and they treat you like you were family. if we ever get back to new york we will sure stop in. loved the place very much. friends from evansville indiana john and sally mundy
All things Irish are revered at this friendly watering hole..
The Scene
Many establishments claim to be authentic Irish pubs, but how many hold Irish classes two nights a week, host readings by Irish authors Frank McCourt and Edna O'Brien and boast the city's longest-running quiz night? Just one: Rocky Sullivan's, named after James Cagney's character in "Angels With Dirty Faces." Former Irish Voice editor Patrick Farrelly and musician Chris Byrne opened the bar back in 1996 with an Irish nationalist bent. Now Brits drink Guinness alongside the regulars, which include a large number of New York's finest and bravest.
The Draw
The wood-paneled walls are adorned with pictures of the Kennedys and Shane MacGowan from the Pogues, along with various Irish knickknacks. A tiny stage in back hosts a variety of bands on the weekends, and in between sets the eclectically stocked jukebox plays everything from Big Pun to New Order, Tom Jones to the Beach Boys.
Man, I love this place .... Coming from quite the sheeshy UES Gal, I gotta tell ya' - this place is great. I never thought I'd use this word, but the bartenders are just SWELL. Serious pint of Guiness as well. Whether you're alone, on a "weird" date, or with a bunch of friends - you'll always have a great time. P.S. Make sure to check out Quiz nights on Thursdays - SOOO fun!
Best City Pub. Best pint of Guinness in the city, amiable bar staff, gregarious patrons, great jukebox, book readings every Wednesday, Pub Quiz every Thursday and the Celtic/Hip-Hop stylings of Seanchaí and the Unity Squad every Friday ... what's not to love? Also one of the safest bets in the city that they'll actually stay open until 4:00.
Rocky's Rocks. Friday nights, the band, the whiskey, the Guinness. I don't remember much else, except that I had fun, and that the bartenders are great!
the best, jerry. i meet my friends here twice a week after work and we always feel comfortable just to have a chat and catch up. bartenders are fun and friendly and thursday nights are quiz nights when the fun really begins. real neighborhood gem.
9 1/2. Rocky Sullivans is my home away from home. Great bartenders, fun atmosphere, and great music on Friday nights and on weekends. Highly recommended.
Hard-Core Irish. Good, dingy Irish bar. Really smokey though. Good beer, so-so service.
