“The doctor's location is convenient but frankly I have not been impressed with her as a doctor either.”
“One is that her schedule allows for a relatively easily scheduled appointment and the other is a very pleasant, skilled and professional member of her staff, Marianella.”
“She is certainly not worth putting up with the horrible front office experience.”
Great Care from a Great Doctor. Great doctor -- genuinely cares about her patients. Started seeing her 7 years ago after correctly diagnosing me with Shingles (at age 26, which three previous doctors bungled) and has been my trusted healthcare provider ever since. Has squeezed me in multiple times with no notice and is careful before doling out prescriptions. Would recommend to anyone I know.
Why did I stay with her so long!.
So my wife had been going to Doctor Decotiis before we had even met. So once we got married, I started seeing her, and ever since then, I've called her Miss Prescription.
Whatever I go in for, she has a prescription for. Doesn't necessarily resolve the problem for you, or refer you to a specialist, just prescribes drugs.
Case and point. For years I went to her for sinus infections, and every single time she would prescribe so CRAZY wide spectrum antibiotic - the kind they give people recovering from major surgery. And two of those times I had a REALLY bad reaction to the antibiotic.
So one day I went into the emergency room for what turned out to be an optic migraine. Just to be on the safe side (which I'm sure Dr. Decotiis would never consider), the doctor in the emergency sent me in for a CAT scan.
So, he confirmed that it was an optic migraine, and not a stroke. BUT, he did mention that I had a non-cancerous polyp in my nasal cavity. I asked if that would cause regular sinus infections. He said yes definitely.
Guess what, if it hadn't been for a visit to the emergency room, and a forward thinking REAL doctor, I would have never had that scan, and I would have never gained the knowledge that I have a growth in my sinus.
IF, and that is a big IF, Doctor Decotiis had bother to refer me to an ENT, then I would have know this years ago. But no, she prefers to write out a prescription.
On of the other reviews referred to an instance with his physical results, where he was told everything was okay over the phone, when in fact everything was not okay.
This happened to me too. Everything was actually okay, but I had a physical, and for WEEKS ( I forgot to call in too) no one bother to inform me what my results were.
When I finally called in, they faxed me my results and said everything was okay.
Generally I'm used to the doctor setting up a follow-up to go over the results. Not Doctor Decotiis.
A year ago my wife switched to a real doctor. I will be following in her footsteps.
Thanks for NOTHING Doctor Decotiis!
I have been a patient of Doctor Decotiis's practice for over 6 years now. Over these 6 years i have felt cared for, protected, and continue to place the utmost trust in her and her team with my personal health. Doctor Decotiis's practice has since day one been accommodating, kind, and highly professional with me. Her practice is never too busy to see you the same day if the moment requires. Over these 6 years a few things have come along as things sometimes do, and as the situation deals fit has placed me in the hands of many other great doctors for further treatments and or evaluations. I place my complete trust and health in her hands, and have always felt complete confidence in her care.
Why the bad reviews?. I have been going to Dr. Decotiis for the past two years and never had an issue. Yes, the wait can be a little long sometimes, but in my experience that happens with all doctors. One great about her office is that they are always willing to accommodate you for short notice visits.
DR.DECOTIIS SAVED MY LIFE!!!!.
I'm a cancer survivor and can honestly say here that Dr. Decottiis is one of the best doctors I have ever known. I've dealt with MANY Manhattan doctors due to cancer, and have lived in NYC for 16 years. I'm fully aware of common practices NYC physicians employ in order to run an efficient office in a crowded city where demand for appointments sometimes means waiting weeks or months to be seen.
I came to Dr. Decotiis for an orthopedic problem that had my knee surgeon baffled. A scientist friend recommended I get the opinion of a Doctor of Internal Medicine, which is what Dr. Decotiis is. My former PC was only a family doctor. In addition, she thought Decotiis was even more qualified to give me the kind of advice I needed because she is also a Doctor of Pathology. Her office gave me an appointment immediately, so refreshing from my PC who once made me wait a week with bronchitis.
Her plan was to do immediate blood tests and a bone density test. Typically, no doctor in NYC will EVER bother to call a patient with a negative result- there's just too many people who are healthy (which is what a "negative" result means) and too many other people who are seriously ill. My results concluded that I was so low in vitamin D that she wanted me to come in to discuss further action. She first thought I might have a problem absorbing nutrients in my gut and referred me to Dr. Peter Baiocco, for a GI exam. I told her I had already been to a GI doctor several times, but she insisted I see Baiocco. He told me I needed a colonoscopy a.s.a.p. and was scheduled for the first appointment the following week. After the procedure, I found out the GI doctor I saw before was wrong in telling me I had a simple hemorrhoid, that I had what appeared to be a malignant tumor in my colon, and that I would need serious care by a team of oncologists and surgeons. I was told by Memorial Sloan Kettering I was stage four, that a tumor had metastasized to my liver, that I should make out my will and health proxy, and that I should prepare to live a shorter life. (I was 39). Dr. Decotiis's opinion was that my knee problem had been caused by my body using all it's Vitamin D to fight the cancer, leaving my it to degenerate after routine surgery. MSK "threw the sink at me" and aggressively treated my cancer. Thank God I am now cancer free and living to tell Citysearch about the expertise of Dr. Decotiis that saved my life.
This is what an EXCELLENT doctor does: diagnoses and treats ill patients. Doctors are not there to coddle people's mommy/daddy issues, or to work out their control issues. Your doctor doesn't call you with your blood results? Get over it. It's a simple blood test, not a PET scan. NYC doctors NEVER call with the results of a blood test unless they find something wrong, which is called a "positive" result.
Did she misdiagnosed you or was it your lack of thoroughly telling her your other symptoms, which is the only logical explanation for her to send you to a physical therapist for a kidney infection, and then claim she is negligent? YOU'RE the one who is NEGLIGENT for not telling the WHOLE story publicly, and then bashing a great doctor. Shame on you! In fact, you should be the one to face a lawsuit for defamation. I'd really like to have compassion for your ills, but it is clear you just want an excuse to blame, moan, and whine for sympathy. Perhaps it is your lack of experience with NYC doctors that is partly at fault, but there is no excuse for slandering online.
My experience has been that it is rare to find personable physician staff in NYC. They have too many people to deal with who are as rude as some of the comments we read here. Can you blame them?
I was VERY sick and I thank God for Dr. Decotiis! She not only saved my life, she called me throughout my treatment because she was a caring physician who wanted to know how I was doing. If you are really ill, Dr. Decotiis is who you want to go to.
worst experience. I saw Dr. Decotiis about six years ago and my experience was okay, I did not come in with any issues and I just needed some vaccinations becuase I was going abroad. I switched insurances and switched doctors but once again my insurance changed and I decided to return. I should have be wiser after I read the reviews but I went anyway. This time I went in for my physical because I was not feeling myself. I expalined my issues and she ran extra thyroid tests for my bloodwork-up. I called several times to receive my results and never once heard back from the doctor or anyone. Finally I got someone on the phone and they faxed me my results. I being a dentist and having some knowledge of the thyroid was concerned that with my symptoms and my levels that were not normal should be addressed with the doctor. I proceeded to call agaon to speak with Dr. Decottis and a lady returned my phone call telling me everything was fine. I was so dismayed by the level of unprofessionalism and more medical judgement. After going online and researching my blood results, I went ahead and scheduled and appointment with an endocrinologist who confirmed my suspicions and diagnosed me with Hashimoto's disease and then sent me for further testing. I would never go back to that office due to their lack of medical knowledge and unprofessionalism. The staff was rude and not helpful. I would never treat patients like that!!!
Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!.
I was forced to see Dr. Decotiis 3 years ago when my PCP stopped taking my insurance, which was sort of fine, as I was given notice. I chose this dingbat because of where she's located and went in with moderate expectations. I was pleased with the minimal wait time and how the staff was "ok". Afterall, I'm seeing the doctor, not the staff. Then, when I was taken in, all my fears were acknowledged. Dr. Decotiis did not look me in the eye, when I expressed concern over my leg itching, she told me to use lotion (now why didn't I think of that one...oh wait, I did!) then said she'd give me a dermatologist (even though she is one) so she basically outsources and when I mentioned I had problems sleeping, she basically said, "sorry".
The follow up was even more atrocious! The staff was downright rude, almost refused to give me a referral to an eye doctor of my choosing and Dr. Decotiis berated me to the point where I almost walked out. I wish I had.
Went back 2 years later, the Indian woman (who I'm convinced is the only one with a brain in the office) was nice and hallejuah! Dr. Decotiis looked me in the eye! That stick up her ass had obviously been removed and all the subsequent follow ups were productive.
Then it went downhill. I have an infection on my foot and after 5 minutes of being placed on hold, was told Dr. Decotiis no longer accepts my insurance and therefore they could not give me a referral. No calls, nothing. I found another PCP (who showed me what medicine is and addressed every concern) and requested Decotiis fax my records. I was told, in a very cold and rude manner, a release needs to be signed (not news to me) and it would take 3-4 weeks with a "fee". When I asked how much, I was told there's a price PER page and therefore they could not give me a cost. Ok, I accept that. Then when I said I would come over so they would not have to fax the chart and I wouldn't have to pay a fee, I was told, "it still takes 3-4 weeks".
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I copy 400 pages in 20 MINUTES!!!!! This is not rocket science and an insult to medicine. Decotiis needs to be shut down and her staff needs to go back to secretary school!
Final rundown: Dr. Decotiis has an eye contact problem, cannot keep her appointments on time, berates the patients, which is like the pot calling the kettle black, the staff is rude (except for the Indian woman) and while you're at it, bring your own toilet paper. Whenever I'm there, they seem to be out of it.
If you MUST see someone MAYBE take your chances with this nutcase, but if you have medical ailments and you have been treated for that problem in the past, do NOT go to Dr. Decotiis, she takes offense when someone knows something she doesn't and basically ignores you. I'm not sure why she hasn't been shut down yet. We all have our bad days and I have my share, but this is ridiculous.
Unless you have 2hrs to wait to be seen for 10 seconds AVOID. I have been seeing this doctor for 2 years because she is near my office and I didn't have time to find another. 3 women in our office have dropped her and finally I have as well. The staff is BEYOND rude. I have yet to wait less than 20 minutes after my scheduled appt time and my appts have yet to last longer than 5 minutes. She rushes rushes and barely listens. Last year, my strep was undiagnosed by her and I needed to go to the walk in clinic while traveling because after my 40 min wait to see her, she gave me Advil.... She also referred me to a gynocologist who is a friend of hers which I later found out didn't even have a license! Stay away. There are better doctors here who care more about their patients and who will honor your appt time.
Staff is rude and unprofessional.
I would give this doctor zero stars if I could. Her staff is unprofessional and offensive. I have been to see Dr Decotiis several times and every encounter with the front office is worse and worse.
For example, the office recently called me ONE hour before a scheduled appointment that I had cancelled a WEEK in advance. I have the phone records to prove it! Her response was that she had no record of the call or my cancellation and would thus charge me a $50 fee. Her tone implied she did not beleive I cancelled and then she blatantly lied by saying that the office also called me the day before at the same number to confirm my appointment. I received no call, no voicemail and have the phone records to prove this too.
I will never go back to see her and would not recommend her to anyone. The doctor's location is convenient but frankly I have not been impressed with her as a doctor either. She doesn't seem to listen when you speak, and her solution to what I have since verified with other doctors as a bacterial infection was to throw me into a bunch of unhelpful and expensive tests.
She is certainly not worth putting up with the horrible front office experience. Save yourself the pain and go to someone else. There are too many good doctors in this city with friendly staff to waste your time with such a bad experience.
GOOD DOCTOR!!!!!!. GREAT DOCTOR, I'VE BEEN SEEING DR DECOTIIS FOR 2 YEARS. SHE IS SIMPLY THE BEST.
