The Scene
This hotel next to Grand Central Station delivers efficiency but not a lot of charm. The glitzy glass and marble lobby has Donald Trump's name all over it, along with the landscaped yet disappointingly austere Sun Garden Lounge (a good place to people watch). One big plus for sports fans is that visiting baseball, hockey, basketball and football teams often stay here, making it a good place for autograph hunting and gawking at multimillion-dollar ballplayers.
The Details
The 1,311 rooms are airy and comfortable. Corporate travelers are especially catered to. For a nominal charge the Hyatt Business Plan provides free access on local, credit card and 800-number calls, express continental breakfast, morning newspaper and 24-hour access to business machines. On site you'll find business and fitness centers and the corporate-looking Commodore Grill.

My husband and I spent a long weekend in NYC and were on a budget. The Grand Hyatt had several specials that met our requirements. We thought because we were skimping on cost the hotel wouldn't be as nice but we were wrong. We had a very early Saturday arrival and the hotel was able to get us a room to checkin. They asked if we would be ok with a handicap room, which we were. Turns out, the handicap room actually provided more space than a normal room. The only main difference we noticed was the bathroom being a bit lower. We read complaints about the space of the room but we found it to be rather large for NYC. We also read reviews that the bed was not comfortable but we thought it was quite comfortable. We had drinks at the hotel bar one evening and had a delightful experience. The bartender was very personable. At checkout, the gentleman was very curtious and asked us specific questions about our stay. Although our room did not have much of a view, it was a great location and central to everything. The hotel is literally directly connected to Grand Central Station. There were many good restaurants in the area. Overall, we had an excellent experience and would stay at this hotel again.
