The Scene – The steakhouse, designed by architect David Rockwell, whose credits include Nobu, Vong and the Lincoln Center branch of Rosa Mexicano, is a sweeping 7,000-square-foot space on the northwest balcony of Grand Central Terminal. Rockwell's design is the traditionally "masculine" steakhouse model--polished mahogany and leather abound, while a large circular bar up front beckons martini and Manhattan drinkers. – – The Food – The fare is typical, showcasing sundry cuts of grilled beef and broiled seafood. A giant porterhouse is available for two and arrives…

My worst experience in NYC ever

by Anonymous025

A group of my friends recently went to MJ's for dinner as part of restaurant week. After sitting down, we were informed that the restaurant does not participate in restaurant week for dinner but that they are aware that the website says they do. We were told there is nothing they could do but when we almost left, they offered to give us a special menu- but not without a couple of snide comments from the waiter. At that point, we should have left because we were treated horribly throughout the meal. My friend who has Celiac disease was treated like a complete inconvenience to the restaurant and not offered any substitutes that she could eat. She had never been treated so badly at a restaurant. It was impossible to enjoy any of the meal when we were being treated so horribly.

We are all in our mid-twenties and while we were going out for restaurant week, we would have been more than willing to spend a large sum of money on a great meal and an enjoyable experience. It is a shame that a well-established (though mostly empty) restaurant like MJ's felt the need to belittle us and act so unprofessional in an understandbly awkward situation. Restaurant week is supposed to allow New Yorkers to enjoy the great restaurants that the city offers at an afforable price, but in this case, MJ's went out of their way to make us feel unwelcome.

I am certain that no one at our table will ever go back there, and I advise everyone to avoid it.

Total Disaster

by rocksolidfoolishness

I went to Jordan?s yesterday (Friday 2/20/09) for lunch with three friends from work. We ordered the burgers. Two ordered them medium, one medium-rare and I requested mine rare. When the burgers finally arrived almost 40 minutes later, one was medium-rare (as ordered) and the other three were all very well done, dry, taking the form of bloated hockey pucks. Regardless, after waiting almost 40 minutes we fell upon the burgers like a pack of hungry wolves, taking the occasional moment to complain to each other about how overcooked and dry the burgers were (except of course the one member of the party who got his medium-rare as ordered). It is amazing how a high end restaurant can get three out of four dishes so wrong. Instead of enjoying a nice Friday lunch that we all looked forward to ending the workweek with, we spent the afternoon nursing stomach aches. Much like Pamela Anderson, a peanut butter brownie, or a shiny Chinese toy, although Jordan?s may appear enticing at first blush, one would be well advised to keep their distance.

Great service and surroundings

by rslade

This is a must do at least once. Every member of the staff is very helpful and sincerely very friendly. The service is truely outstanding without hovering. Being located over the concourse of GCT is a perfect NYC experience. The food, while predictable is very, very good. Definitely pricey but, hey, what do you expect?
