Great hotel, great staff.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the W Hotel on 49th and Lexington for Valentine's Day Weekend 2010, and had a great time. The hotel is very centrally located in Manhattan (at least for us it was), and there's tons to do within walking distance.
The rooms are a bit small, but this IS NYC...where ALL rooms are small. However, within the room, the beds were comfy, the decor was cool and different.
There are two bars, the hotel lobby bar and the Whiskey Blue, and both are great for a few cocktails and some people watching.
One issue: During Holiday/Busy weekends, they're staff can be a bit overwhelmed (they screwed up a bit on Valentine's Day). However, the management and staff did they're best to make things right, and even comped us a nights stay! That's the true test of a great hotel - great customer service.
