Worst customer service in Manhattan.
I really like The Art of Shaving Products, unfortunately, this particular store has the worst customer service I've ever experienced in New York City. The woman who works there is quite literally the ruddest and most condescending sales woman ever! Do yourself a favor--avoid the store and buy the products online.

Nice place for a shave.
My brother and I went there before a wedding. The place is small and not intimidating. The shave was nice and a great haircut from the lady barber. My skin was smooth and not irritated. Recommend the royal treatment. Highly recommend the shop!!

Best shave in town.
The place is small but the shaves are great. Close shave for the nervous. Two chairs so the place is not busy or loud. Must book in advance but other than that enjoyed the experience. Plus the shaving cream I bought isn't half bad. If you want a haircut, they do that as well. Staff is friendly and not pushy.

Big Deal....
This joint has been around for years...and it ain't no "old school" or old fashioned American barber at all, as the article implied!
In fact, I went there about 10 years ago and a woman shaved me and wouldn't stop trying to sell me products in this tiny midtown "shavery"
LOL at snooty Manhattanites who think this is like the old days at an American barbershop!
My pole is spinning ! LOL

The best shave in town!.
My nephew gave me gift certificate for a Royal Shave and it was great! The place is very masculine and the barber was extremely skillful. The mask at the end of the shave is truly a relaxing experience. Bought all my shaving supplies and a razor as well. Product is great. Would highly recommend to anyone, makes a great gift.

A model of the modern gentlemen's barber spa..
The Scene
Art of Shaving offers Old World luxury and friendly advice, right off busy Madison Avenue. The spa is quiet and comfortable and the expert staff are friendly and willing to answer any questions. Pre-shave oils, shaving creams, after-shave gels, traditional razors, cartridge blades, shaving accessories, stands and grooming tools are all in stock.
The Service
Walk in for an appointment, relax in an old-fashioned barber's chair and choose from a selection of services priced between $20-$50, including a full head and face shave, haircuts, manicures and skin treatments. The most popular service is the relaxing Royal Shave, which consists of a hot towel to open facial pores, a pre-shave oil application to soften the beard and protect the face from razor burn, heated shaving cream, a precision straight-razor shave, a calming facial mask, an herbal aftershave and an aromatherapy treatment.

The AOS Barber Spa in Vegas is 10X better.
I initially fell in love with the AOS in Vegas, where the barber took her time to explain everything she was doing, took a seat and gave me a close and careful shave (I didn't have to shave for 3 days!) and also tended to every ingrown hair individually. Here however, the service was a little less attentive. The barber was a little sloppy and left portions of my face scruffy and some bloody (he cut me to two places, with them not healing until two days later) Find out who does a good job before you go.

Classy place but NOT a close shave.
Art of Shaving on Madison is a classy place. Very nice inside with two barber chairs in the back. I had a gift certificate for a haircut and a royal shave. First was the haircut which came out good. Next was the royal shave. The shave includes hot towel, pre-shave lotion, two hot lather shaves, mask, and after shave. The entire process does take a long time. A straight razor is used. I was NOT impressed with the closeness of the shave. A Mach 3 would do a better job. I dont know if its because they are afraid of cutting you but I was very surprised that I didnt walk out of there with an ULTRA SMOOTH face. A straight razor which uses a strop for sharpening was not used. It was a straight blade style but took a disposable blade.

I'd rather lather over the sink.
Don't waste your time, your money can be better spent on the Mach 3 shaver. This kind of service went out of fasion for a reason, it takes forever! Spend your money on a message.
