The Scene
Chances are you know Caswell-Massey's products, even if you think you don't. The company sells the kind of classic scents and toiletries used by your grandparents and nearly every president since Washington. Greta Garbo made a daily pilgrimage here late in her life (back when there was a soda fountain/drugstore), and current fans include Kevin Kline, Elton John and Julia Roberts.
The Goods
Traditional, offbeat and retro-cool goodies for men and women, from oils and perfumes to skin care and beautiful gift sets. Favorites include Dr. Hunter's Rosewater & Glycerine Hand Creme, Milk Shampoo and Almond and Aloe Cold Cream Soap (used in the White House since 1952). Past the familiar bottles of Newport, Elixir of Love No. 1 and Casma are nostalgic shaving items and a few modern lines like Ahava and Roger & Gallet.

I love this old-fashioned store for its high quality products, wide selection, and friendly staff. Old world atmosphere and excellent value.
