The Scene
Grafted onto the New York Public Library in midtown's leafy Bryant Park, this sunny and spacious restaurant draws mostly seasonal tourists and weekday business lunchers. The New American menu includes everything from crab cakes to a yellowfin tuna salad to grilled chicken, and there are many fresh-tossed Mediterranean pastas to choose from. The tables come along with a view: Floor-to-ceiling windows face the well-tended, people-packed park.

The location is great of course, but the food is not. For $18 I had expected that the hamburger would at least be decent, but I was wrong. Several fish entrees were overcooked and smelled anything but fresh, the portions were small and the prices were big. There were lots of beautiful people floating around the place, but clearly their priorities are to see and be seen rather than to eat a decent meal.

Host, Tom Ferritti is one of the most accomodating and friendly New Yorkers! The food is FANTASTIC and the location is perfect. Too often, it's difficult to find the perfect combo.

I made a reservation here for my husband's birthday. It was wonderful! Our reservation was for 8:15, after sunset. We chose to sit outside. The view of the city skyline and the park all lit up was so romantic. We had our infant daughter with us and I was a little worried about taking her to such a swank place. But the staff were all very complementary and accomodating. The menu was fantastic! We had a cheese platter for an appetizer and both had the filet minon for an entree. The desserts were also terrific. The creme brulee was to die for! Overall, a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend it to others.
