“Beautiful fabrics, and knowlegeable staff, quiet rooms allow for mulling and touching.”
Great service, great fabric!.
Although this business has moved to the 2nd floor of a commercial building, this is the warmest, customer-friendliest fabric shop in town! For decades, they were located at street level on 40th Street, with an enormous shop and welcoming entryway. The character of the location may have changed, but the character of the store has not.
First of all, the collection of unique fabrics on hangers in the rear of the second floor is beautiful. Take a look at all of the shirtings, cotton prints, silks and wools, and I DEFY you to leave the store empty-handed. Sure, the prices can be a bit higher than many other stores in the district, but so is the quality, and the knowledge of the store's staff. When you know what you want, they can find it, even if they don't physically have it in the store when you ask. They have a really vast web of resources, and serve professionals and hobbyists with the same enthusiasm and courtesy.
Good fabrics, good service.
I found Rosen & Chadick by chance, and have been going back ever since. Beautiful fabrics, and knowlegeable staff, quiet rooms allow for mulling and touching. Still run by one of the original owners, try to get his help if you're there - the stories and suggestions make it worthwhile - many's the time I've found new fabrics and bought more yardage than I planned because of his time and attention! And I'm ok with that! I understand one of the sons is running the business side, and I'm sure he's a great at business, but is not a people person...certainly not customers. The floor staff are not aloof by the way, just quiet and waiting for you to be ready with questions or ready for help.
Don't forget to visit the 2nd floor...more gorgeous stuff awaits you!!
