EXCELLENT MEAL!. We went to Gallagher's on a recommendation from a friend. I loved the NY Steakhouse decor. We had an excellent, friendly waiter who was very accommodating. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. No room for dessert, but will try next time as I'll definitely go back

Not Great. My family had a great time at Gallaghers despite the varied food and rude and incompetent wait staff. Even the soda was bad, the coke had a very strange taste. The fried calamari was terrible and tasted like something one might eat while drunk at a roadside diner. The steaks were not bad, although they had really didn't get the temperatures right, which should be pretty standard for a steakhouse. The burgers were also good although once again my mother's medium rare burger was well done. The crabcakes were what sealed the deal and made me want to even write this review. Not Good! Should not even be on the menu. The sliced steak sandwitches were bad as well. We went to Keen's last year and it was much better.

Very bad!!!. Well being from NYC and eating out often, this place has gone down in food and service ( which wasn't great to begin with not consistant). As I have come here over 20 years on and off with clients and family for a good steak I won't come here anymore. Over the recent visits for business over the last few years Gallaghers has lost its quality of steak and below average service. I can understand why this place is empty.

Go to the other great steak houses in the area like The Palm Westside, Delfrisco's, Prime, and BLT Steak are way better than this old run down overpriced steak house with an attitude. It's dirty as well, someone should have the staff clean the floors. Steaks are not good as they used to be, once in its day it was a great steak.

See you at Prime or Delfrisco's.

impressed. So, I dropped in on this place with my nephew before a Social Distortion concert on Nov 4th. Needles to say I was dressed sloppily and disheveled, it was a punk concert for crying out loud. As I walked in with Jr I looked around and thought we would be bounced based on our appearance.

Maybe all the bad reviews have been heeded!

My nephew wanted a burger, I asked the server since i didnt see it on the menu (sometimes steak houses have secret menus) unfortunately, no. He made a suggestion based on price and the boys size.

The boy enjoyed his filet and I enjoyed the steak I ordered. Now as far as "burnt" it was a huge hunk of steak, the outside would have to be charred for it to cook at all. I wouldnt say it was the greatest steak I have ever had in my whole entire life, but it was certainly on par with the pricing.

The wait staff was extremely attentive. It felt like a private dining experience. My nephew was laughing at how quickly his water was refilled...which by the way, if someone wants "water" as a drink, dont give them a juice glass, give them a pint glass!!! but this goes for about 90% of restaurants.

I did request the check, some people find this a bother to have to ask...but if you are killing time and enjoying the meal and ambience, having the check dropped off is akin to "here's your hat, whats your hurry" Even after we said we didnt want desert, he didnt drop off the check.

Now, back to the part where I was dressed like a dirtbag....there was no coaching on the tip, the waiter didnt check the receipt when I handed him the folio to see what his cut would be, he thanked me and wished me a nice night.

And the portions...for those of you who are comfortable with the idea of a la carte sides...they gave me 15 pounds of homefries(ok exageration...but there was enough for 4 people) and enough onion rings for 6 people. I jokingly asked for a "crate" to put the rest of the home fries in, that is how much there was.

yeah, it was a good night they should have sharper knives though.

bathroom attendant was a nice guy too.

Poor Service in the City. Last weekend I was treated to a big apple surprise... a trip to NYC, my first! My boyfriend was the ultimate tour guide; Central Park, the Guggenheim, the Plaza, and two trips to the theater. As a thank you, I decided to treat him to a special dinner on our last night. My mistake was choosing Gallagher's. Our meal included cold lobster bisque, a limp salad, mediocre mushrooms, and overcooked steak. That being said, the mundane meal was the star of the Gallagher's experience. The service was indifferent to the needs of its patrons. The waiter provided limited knowledge of the menu and offered poor recommendations. The back waiter failed to deliver hot food or cold beverages, but did charge us for a drink we never ordered. I observed the same waiter coaching foreign guests re: tipping in America. Sadly, that was the only time, I saw him hustle all night! He attempted to coach me as well... Well, complaints were made...and obviously there is a trickle down effect from regional management. Apparently, Gallagher's waiters are Union, and the restaurant chain can't afford to fire substandard staff. The most expensive meal of an otherwise amazing trip was the unanimous low point. Consider Gallagher's the Great White STAY AWAY!!!

Stay Away!!! Spend your money somewhere else!. Went there after the theater. After ordering our waiter was scarce. When the food arrived the medium Rare steak was overcooked. I didn't have a chance to send the steak back...The waiter and back waiter never came back to our table.

The restaurant was not that crowded at 10pm, after asking for the check over 5 times and over 30 minutes of waiting.(we asked the bus boy, bus boy again, back waiter, Maitre'd, then back water again). We left a tip accourding to our poor service. 10%. REALLY TOO MUCH!

As we walked out the door the backwaiter came up and said they were accustomed to a minimum 15% percent tip.

I told him I was used to not haveing to ask for the bill over 5 times.

Having to ask for my iced tea to be refilled 4 times to the same guy....BTW THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO ASKED FOR A LARGER TIP.

I know this place has been here since 1927, But the attitude of the staff and the manager Mr. Mike will treat you like they are doing you a favor. Do yourself a favor and try some place else in this great city!

Perfect steakhouse for midtown. I like my steak juicy, tender and somewhat bloody. I ordered a medium steak and it was cooled to perfection, came already cut and the mashed potato and broccoli sides were delicious.

We topped it with a fresh Bordeaux and it was a truly memorable dining experience. Impeccable service.

Excellent Dining Experience. My co-workers and I decided to check out Gallagher's during a business trip to NYC. I had the Ribeye which was gigantic and had an incredible taste. The portions at this place are large and leave you satisfied, yet wanting to come back for more. My co-workers had the filet mignon and salmon that looked and according to them WAS great. The environment is laid back and easy-going. Will be returning to NYC this summer with my family and Gallagher's will definitely be on our list of places to visit.

You can't turn down a steak from Gallagher's. Gallagher's is my hotspot when it comes to getting a great steak. I've lived in NYC for 25 years and my best steak was at Gallagher's. Their dinner menu is great. If you're a meat and potatoes guy, like myself, you will fall in love with their food instantly. In addition, I love their power lunch menu. For $28, you get a nicely portioned appetizer, entree, and dessert, all of which are delicious and full of flavor. I have recommended Gallagher's to my friends, parents, and even my boss. They have all come back raving about the quality of the food. I envision my dining experience at Gallagher's to continue improving as the years progress.
