“Food is great can't complain but hell no refills on fountain drinks?”
“The pizza's excellent, leaving you wanting more!”
“The people there are terrible to deal with.”
“Although the slices are huge I really didn't like it because of too much cheese and not enough sauce for me.”
Pizza, pizza and more pizza ? NYC is certainly loaded with it, so when someone tells me that one pizza is better than another I have a hard time believing it. But then my sister dragged me to Famous Original Ray's Pizza, and now well I know it sounds hokey ? but I?m a believer. It was the best pizza I ever had, and I?ve had a lot of pizza.
No only was it super yummy, the slices were huge, especially since I piled on a few toppings. It was more than enough for me, but you know while my stomach said no more, but my brain, and taste buds were looking for more, so I got a slice to go. The guys behind the counter were super nice, and well the place delivers the classic NYC pizza experience.
I am a pizza junkie! I eat it at least twice a week and whenever I need my fix I make sure I try to get it from Famous Ray's. You might think "pizza is pizza," but you'd be wrong. There's a science and an art to making a really great New York style pizza--sauce to spice ratio, thin or thick crust, how much cheese goes on top, and how long it cooks for--whatever the science is, Ray's has got it figured out. Of course I realize that the "perfect" pizza is subjective, which is why it's also an art, but Ray's hits so many high marks that it just might be that perfect pizza.
I love their crust, it's thin-crust, not too thin though, and cooked just right so that it's just a little crispy, but still foldable (very important!). The slices are also HUGE! Grab two slices and you've just bought lunch AND dinner! I usually only eat cheese slices, but sometimes I'll grab a black olive slice, or a veggie slice, and the ingredients are usually pretty fresh. They also have pasta dinners which are proper restaurant quality, and remind me of some of the Italian food places I used to go to as a kid with my Italian Grandmother, and that's saying A LOT!
Ray's is a chain, but sometimes I feel like it's the one chain restaurant in NY that's doing it right. Each location feels like an independent pizza place. My one and only gripe is that when the pizzas sit out too long they dry up, and they're not nearly as good when they're fresh. It's best to grab whatever slice just came out of the oven. The ambiance isn't always great since they can be a pretty high-traffic chain, so try to avoid the lunch rush and the bridge-and-tunnel drinking crowd, and you'll have a great experience.

Great Pizza. Food is great can't complain but hell no refills on fountain drinks? Not cool... Slices were big just as said by many people that have been there before me. I was happy with the service & the food.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PEOPLE..NEVER GO OR DEAL WITH THEM. THEY ARE LIARS.. The people there are terrible to deal with. When i called, I was asking if they would donate pizza's to a charity event to help a women and children's shelter. They said yes, but when they delivered it, they charged us for it. Then when I called the woman said they never donate pizzas or do anything associated with charities, and it is not "their policy." . And she would not even consider refuting the charge. Apparantly she was the only one who spoke english in that store, and was saying that who ever I spoke to must have misunderstood me (even though I asked twice). I asked for a manager, but apparently he is never there. In the end NEVER EVER go there, or deal with them. They are a terrible pizza place, and horrible people to deal with. And because we had to pay for their pizza, money that was going to a women and children's shelter, will be going to their business instead. I hope they feel good about that.
Worst Pizza in NYC!.
this place is absolutely disgusting. The olives smell like garbage, the pizza is cold, and the cheese is.........
Avoid at all costs.
This place only ranks lower than Pizza Plus in my book as the Worst Pizza in Nyc.
below average ny pizza, bad service. I went with a party of 4 others for dinner at this place the other night. The lady who worked there gave us an attitude the whole time we were there. Hey, if you're looking for crappy pizza with lots of (bad) NY attitude, this is your place.
Best Pizza In the World !!!. While visiting New York, we (my family) grabbed some pizza while walking around Times Square. What a surprise !!! We all agreed it was the best pizza we have ever had. I dream of this pizza. I love the thin crust, and the cheese is awesome. We tried several different pieces, and they were all good. We can't wait to visit New York again so we can have some more of Ray's pizza.
Yummy. Know what you want when you get in line, or get ready to get some good natured heat from the guys behind the counter. The pizza's excellent, leaving you wanting more!!
Original Ray's. is so much better than Ray's on 8th. I couldn't believe how much better it was. The crust had just the right amount of oven char and crispness. Well worth the walk over.
