The Scene – You've got to admire a hotel in this day and age that relies solely on word of mouth. This place has no Web site. Yet with enough mystery to remain a secret, but enough of a clientele to say it's doing well, the hotel is prized by loyal clients who relish its privacy, smooth service and friendly, dedicated staff. – – The Details – From its lobby to its rooms, the hotel offers loads of cozy comfort. Having a resident owner helps, of course, as he is constantly refurbishing in order to keep the place clean and fresh-looking. There are 134 spacious and…
Retro Glamour

This place feels like what it would have been like in NYC during the "Valley of the Dolls" days. The decor is a throwback to the 60's before the scene went psyhcedelic. The lobby is dark and the staff friendly. The elevator attendants are charming, and the hallways are wallpapered in a dark faux-velvet (red and gold? my memory is failing here). Once in the room, I was instantly cheered with the soft and bright combination of pinks and peaches gracing the walls, furniture and wall-to-wall carpeting. The immacualtely clean and well-preserved "apartment" (I choose to call it due to the HUGE rooms) consists of an entry, separate pantry, living room, long hallway, and bedroom that sleeps four. The bedroom gets dark for sleeping, and it's very quiet. The hotel is close to the glamour of 5th Ave shopping and Central Park. This place is truly a hidden gem!

your maiden aunt's apartment...

Staying at the Wyndham is like staying at your Aunt Imogene's apt. while she's in Florida for the winter. The rooms are huge, with a wonderful shabby chic decor. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The location, 1/2 block from Central Park, is perfect. A little deli across the street serves up coffee and bagels for breakfast. If you're looking for modern and glitzy, this is not the place. But if you're looking for friendly and comfortable, this is the place. Even the other guests were cordial. Here's a hint..if you need a cab on a rainy night, cross the street, go thru the Helmsley Park Lane and use their doorman. The suites are perfect for "groups". Enjoy!!
- Pros: location, huge rooms
- Cons: no coffee makers
