This one-stop tech superstore sells and repairs everything from PCs to iPods..
In Short
Since opening in 1984, this technology store has become a leading retailer in tech products and services. Home and office items include everything from PCs and scanners to Playstation 2s and office furniture. Their certified "Techknowledgists" repair and upgrade equipment on site--regardless of where it was purchased--and "Digital Living" specialists provide a variety of home installation and support packages. Many locations feature in-store training classes, from software applications to tech workshops.
Their Techservice is a disaster! Don't waste your time or money!!. My recent experience with their Tech department was a complete disaster. In the middle of school I was having a problem w/ my laptop -- too little disk space & memory. So I took it in for repair. It only took a week, but even though I paid $150 for them to backup & copy my harddrive (and all my schoolwork & iTunes), they didn't do it! Once I realized it, I tried calling but of course no one answered. So finally I went down there, but they said "sorry, already threw out the old harddrive." So my semester is screwed at this point, and I can look forward to many more hours loading iTunes. Oh, yeah, and I paid over $600 for the honor -- almost enough for a new laptop!
Heed These Warnings - All True!. A week later I called and they said I didn't bring in my OS CDs. They found them. I called back often and was told no less than five times that someone would call me back and that never happened. The "technician"suggested I buy extra RAM and that would let me operate the newest OS. $120 later I still had the same problem. Another "technician" suggested my OS CD was too old and I buy a new one. What a sucker I am. I listened to his advice and am now out $100 more because that didn't really make a difference. I took it back a third time and finally someone who looked like they knew what they were doing said I should have just bought a new computer instead of wasting +$400 and gave me a third diagnosis. To top it all off, they lost my MS Office CD.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS COMPUSA TECH SUPPORT!!!.

They specify they will call on a certain day but fail to do so. They specify that they will return to you the money for services not performed above and beyond the supposed "labour" taken to diagnose the machine (with no detailed diagnosis) and they fail to do so. Finally they refuse to return to you your hardware (after you have pre-paid the full amount of the services, and after they refuse to refund the amount they promised to refund by telephone) until you have signed a disclaimer that is irrelevant to your taking receipt of your own hardware (despite the fact they have failed to repair it).
Worst Phone Service in Manhattan. I must have called this store 20 times in the space of 30 minutes trying to find a replacement power adaptor for my laptop. On the first try, I actually DID talk to someone, who was terribly rude, and put me on hold and hung up. The next few tries resulted in being hung up on by the computer service itself. On the 7th try, they answered the phone, but put it on speakerphone and then hung up on me (even though they knew I was there...)...I never did talk to ANYONE at this store who could help me. Go somewhere else if you need information.
warning!. Really terrible customer service. And a 14-day return/exchange policy, regardless of the reason for return. I have a bad experience almost every time I shop here.
