Run-of-the-mill luxury in a good location..
The Scene
At first glance, this big-city, big-money hotel may seem a little impersonal--there are 640 rooms in the 46-story building, after all. Not surprisingly, it attracts business guests, globetrotting travelers and honeymooners who can hide out in complete privacy and comfort amidst the large-scale glitter.
The Details
Rooms are decorated with European flair and boast marble bathrooms. Their full range of amenities includes dual-line phones with fax and data port, refrigerators and bathroom telephones. Upper-floor rooms have sweeping views of Central Park and the skyline. The grandiose lobby is done up with gold sconces and Oriental rugs. The dark-wood-paneled Harry's Bar on the second floor is a seductive retreat from the busy city. The Room with a View Restaurant offers (obviously) park views and classic Continental cuisine. The experienced, multilingual staff is polite and courteous. Ongoing renovations keep the hotel up-to-date.
affordable and classy. Spending a beatiful night in the city over looking central park on the 25th floor. Cant ask for more. The room were decorated with prestiage and class. The crew were very attentive to our needs 24/7. Espaically the man at the courtsey desk, He name was Jimmy Morallis. He was our navagation directed for the night. Each light and street he guided us to the front door. With a warm and friendly welcoming greeting. I would diffinately spend anoth weekend in this hotel.
not quite luxury. Not that wonderful. Went to New York with 2 friends at the beginning of Febuary, and was not happy at all. The rooms were small, we asked for two double beds and all they had availabe was a queen. Ended up having to sleep on a cot, which cost extra. The rooms are absolutely just plain ugly. I might be young, but the furnishings in a holiday inn would have been more enjoyable to look at. Red, blue and gold. Looked exactly like the hotel in the Shining, hallways and all. Just seemed to snobby. The front desk was even worse. Nobody knew what we were saying and they couldn't help us with anything. The best part was Harry's Bar and Woody the bartender.
location, location, location. The location can't be beat. The rooms are large and comfortable. This is an old hotel, so things like ice and soda have to be ordered up from room service. However, the staff is friendly and helpful. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Don't be fooled.
A hotel with a great location but no atmosphere. Take my advise, do not pay more than $150 per night for this hotel. Pictures in the website are misleading!! They were charging $400 per night. We up and left and stayed at the Ritz Carlton next door for a little more $.
This property needs serious updating!! We were scheduled to stay for five nights but ended up leaving after one night!!
Overpriced and overrated!!
Great Location, Quality Hotel. Is there a better location than this in NYC? We stayed a whole week -- even though we paid only for a "city view", they gave us a room overlooking Central Park. Elegance, service -- and did we mention the great location?
Make your parents happy!. My parents were coming to visit me in New York for the first time since I moved here, although they have been to the city before. Overall, I wanted to make sure they were comfortable and had plenty of space, because that's the one thing they always complain about. When I saw their huge room with two full-size beds and a view of Midtown, I couldn't have been happier. Service was wonderful, and the fabulous accommodations made their visit a hit.
Fantastic Hotel/Resteraunt. This is a fantastic resteraunt, I highly recommed it to anybody that wants top luxury and very friendly serviece.
9. My wife and I checked in for a weekend stay. Overall experience was good. We disconnected phone in room by accident. It was a Saturday and we called for service. The Telecom Manager came herself and repaired it ( I travel alot and I have never seen this type of service before.) The front office personnel were good. The Room Service was a bit slow but the items ordered were first rate. Will be back and would tell my friends to visit when they are in NYC in spite of the dog.
bad experience!. We stayed at the Helmsley Park Lane back in February. It was truly a lovely experience. However, we were left with a very sour taste in our mouths when we waited, outside, with our luggage, for almost TWO HOURS for the valet to get our car! To make matters worse, an employee of the hotel was badmouthing the young lady who worked at the counter, where you hand in your claim ticket for your car, openly and to anyone that was willing to listen! He called her an "idiot" and a "moron." At such a fine hotel, it was a shame that this experience put such a damper on our stay. I would not stay there again.
