Luckily, you don't need to go to L.A. to get your hands on Harry's diamonds: The Fifth Avenue store is the heart of the international empire. Diamond cutters work in the back, while salespeople up front wait on clients like bankers, treating shoppers with enough deference to make one think, "Hey, maybe I can afford that $500,000 ring after all."
The Goods
Diamonds, rubies and emeralds, oh my! It's minerals first at Harry's--everything here, from necklaces to cufflinks, exists to show off the stones. As it should: These are some of the most extraordinary gems around, from rare jewels nesting atop tiaras to diamonds so perfectly cut that it hurts one's eyes to stare at them.

What can I say? Nevermind the fact that I can't afford one earring in this place - it is nonetheless a treasure trove of some of the world's most famous, expensive and beautiful jewelry. For us mere mortals - It is almost like going to a museum. "I'd like to thank the academy..."
