  1. Besides, the food was not as good as the Chinatown location anyway.
  2. The midtown location just doesn't have the appeal or value - but the steam soup buns are still amazing and a great luncheon spot.
  3. In my view, the most important aspect to a good chinese restaurant is still the food.

  1. We haven't eaten here, only had the takeout, but it's the best & most reliable Chinese food in our neighborhood.

  4. Other goodies are the shrimp noodle soup and crispy fried duckling.
  5. cold food, bad service
  6. recommend the soup dumplings, they are steamed with either crab or pork inside with a little broth.
  7. They also provide a wide variety of authentic appetizers.
  8. the dumplings are good (crab meat preferred) but petshopgirl is correct, they are quite
  9. Yes, this place's soup dumplings aren't as good as the Flushing or Pell Street branches.
  10. Yes, the food was good before it got famous, but since they got well known, and opened other shops, their quality has dropped.
  11. As I cab it to Pell st., for the best soup dumplings in town, my mouth waters.
  12. However, if you are looking to enjoy real authentic great chinese cuisine, this place definitely compares favorably to those expensive "traps
  13. The food was good (not great!
  14. We headed over to Joe's Shanghai on 56th street for the delicious soup dumplings we love.
  15. can say the food was good, but everything that went with it was bad.
  16. The best soup dumplings.
  17. For those who enjoy real chinese food
  18. Looking over the menu, we realised that the prices were 'Manhattan prices' instead of the Chinatown/flushing prices we were used to ( the soup dumplings were at least 2 dollars more expensive).
  19. Small, crowded, but excellent food!
  20. They serve a great range of Chinese dishes with Chinatown quality in midtown.

I had the worst experience in my life in this restaurant! I went there with my friends. Made a reservation online for 9.30 p.m When we came waiter was super mean, rude, didn't listen to us, yell at us, rush us, we didn't know what we order, what we eat. They made us pay before we finish eating. It was absolutely awful! I was in Chinatown restaurant but after this I will never ever coma back there and never ever tell anyone to go there.

Worst eating place

by hsu76

Beside soup dumpling, we ordered some vegetable, fish & pork, all are horrible. After one bite, we wish we only ordered the soup dumpling. It's worse than any cheapest take-out Chinese I have been to. After this experience, now I doubt other locations (Flushing & Chinatown) are any good despite good review by others.

  • Pros: Soup dumpling
  • Cons: Other food not eatable but pricy

Overrated, no ambiance.

We had a crawler under our feet( the review won't allow me to name)

told the Hostess/Mgr about it no action was taken.

The Dumpling was the only thing we ordered, a disappointment .

The overall look of the place was unkempt.

"Not as bad as other reviews"

by vieques

Went with a crowd of six people on a Thursday night, got seated promptly, excellent steamed pork buns with crabmeat. Service was okay, you just had to keep repeating what you want (water, duck sauce) because they would not bring it to you. Tofu was good but a bit greasy. The rest of the food was excellent. They did not have many deserts available from the menu. Overall, we all enjoyed and we plan to go back. Prices are higher due to location, we found it reasonable for a restaurant on Fifth Ave in Manhattan.

  • Pros: Good Ambience & Delicious Food
  • Cons: A bit crowed between other tables

Beyond Rude

by heelsandshades

Let me say right off the top that I love the Joe?s down in Chinatown and will continue to go there for my soup dumpling needs. This location? They can keep it. When we sat down at the table and asked for a minute to look at the menu, my friend noticed that the waiter CLEARLY had an attitude but I just let it go. Then I placed an order for dumplings and he began to walk away as if there weren?t two other people at the table who wanted something else to eat and I had to call him back over and he seemed annoyed by this! He never asked if we wanted anything to drink and never even brought us a complimentary tea. My friends got their dishes that they ordered but where were my dumplings and ginger ale? In Shanghai perhaps because 45 minutes later I had neither although people who had arrived well after we did got their dumplings and whatever else they ordered in a timely fashion. When we complained to the manager, he offered the most INSINCERE apology and the waiter had the AUDACITY to expect a tip. I don?t want to even play this card but everyone else who received proper service were either Caucasian or Asian and a friend who is Asian said that her friends of her family who owned restaurants would complain that Black people and European tourists were lousy tippers and therefore they gave them inferior service. I?m sorry if my people have a reputation for being cheap tippers but I?m not one of them and I think 45 minutes, an insincere apology and no dumplings is unacceptable (no matter what color you are).

  • Pros: Nicer looking than the Chinatown location
  • Cons: RUDE SERVICE
