A New York City secret

by elsushi921

I was hesitant to go to the theatre distric for dinner, we are New Yorkers and know better than to go there for fine dining. Anyhow we went to DA Marino and what a shock, it was AMAZING. The food is excellent and Pasquale now makes spaghettin squash for me. The owner is Pasquale and he is from Calabria and his heart and soul is in this restaurant, each flower and candle is picked by him and displayed just right. The ladies room is something to see, with candles and rose pedals and fountains. The paintings on the wall is from his home town Altamonte, Italy. The wines are fantastic. Yes its a bit pricey but well worth it, as you get so much more than just fabulous food, there is Italian live music and just a feeling in the air of love and being someplace special. Sort of a fast trip to Italy wthout leaving NY. The waitstaff is beyone wonderful too. there is now extra service fees or anything like that. This place is a true destination and not a tourist trap at all. We go often mostly on Sunday nights, its a fun, special night out...Great way to end the week end or start a new week and there is a regular crowd that goes there too....

This place is a scam. Ruined my romantic night out

by NYCwill

Let's put is this way. I just created an account to write a review for this scam. They must be padding the reviews because there is no way anyone could walk out of that place and not feel cheated. I'm from NY and stay away from that area like the plague, but I just saw a great show and figured I'd give it a chance. Big mistake. I paid $160 for a horrible meal for my girlfriend and myself. We only had two entreats and a carafe of bad wine. They tried to put us in the corner where you could hardly move, I immediately told them we'd like another seat as I had to move the table every time I got up or down (I'm 5'9 and 160 lbs, if I can't fit it's probably too small). Then, they move us right in front of their kitchen door which then proceeded to open and close every two seconds providing an annoying backdrop to the mediocre piano (of course after the meal i learned that this cost me an extra 20$, they don't tell you, but there's a 18% service charge. This doesn't cover the tip, this is for the piano, candles and flowers. wtf. That's why i'm paying 40$ for my meal. That covers everything). We ordered a special which wound up costing $42 for mine and $45 for my girlfriend. That really upset me as everything on the menu was from $22-$32. The food was cold, the place was cold, the service was horrible. Please, Please never go there.

Oh, and I couldn't complain because the manager was in a heated argument with one of his staff members (something about one of them stealing money) during our entire dinner. This took place right behind my table. This makes NY look bad.

BEST RESTAURANT IN NYC! MUST GO!!!

by NYCLocal

Da Marino's is my absolute favorite restaurant in New York. I moved here a couple of months ago and stumbled upon Da Marino's after I saw Chicago. From my very first time there, the service was incredible, the food to die for and the atmosphere just superb. I have never experienced such great customer service as I did from the entire staff at Da Marino's. Every time I go there I get a different meal and I am more and more pleased every time - I have never had such delicious food (even in Italy). The food just melts in your mouth! There is nothing to top off the night at Da Marino's like their desserts. The dessert plates have cake and fruit and the presentation of everything there is beautiful. The atmosphere is the best in the city. This is a great spot for a girls night out, romantic first date or just if you want to grab a bite to eat! The live piano every night makes for an especially fun experience! I have been back once a week since my first time there and have recommended everyone I know there (friends, family, visitors and even my boss and I went there together for lunch). Your experience in NYC won't be complete without a visit here!

AVERAGE FOOD and RIPPED OFF

by theatreguy1208

we went here for a meal before the theatre. i guess they thought we were tourists. the food was average, the service rushed, and at the end we were presented with a $19 service charge "for the music and the flowers"!!!! we were reminded that it "wasn't a tip". WHAT A RIP OFF! we are fighting the charge with our credit card company and definitely will not be back!!!! BUYER BEWARE!

  • Pros: not much
  • Cons: deceptive service charges
