Very glad to have found this spot!
by blgerson
There is notoriously nothing over in the midtown west area, but this place is truly a diamond in the ruff.
My girl and I were walking to a show at nearby Terminal 5 as we remembered at the last minute that there is not much in that area in regards to food and bars unlike everywhere else in the city.
We saw the Greek Kitchen and it was the obvious choice considering the options. Upon entering it had a very cute and authentic charm. After I got my first ouzo I was very pleased we had gone there.
The food was great and not expensive. The greek salad that comes with an entree and the greek fries were awesome. We also got the seafood apatizer and the octopus and shrimp were cooked to perfection. Lamb shank was really good, and the spinach i would not order again.
I will return to this place even though it is a bit out of the way. It was that good of an experience. If you are considering it I would encourage you to go.
Decent Greek Food
by habsfan1
I come from Montreal where it is said to have the worlds best Greek food even better than Greece. The Greek food in Montreal is indeeed the best Greek I have had. For years, I have been searching for at least a decent Greek restauraunt in New York. Finally, I found The Greek Kitchen. The Greek Kitchen has very good, service, and the chicken souvlaki and the doner is very good. The only con was the Tzatziki which was just ok. Overall, Montreal still has the best Greek Restauraunts but The Greek Kitchen is the best Greek in New York.
- Pros: Doner and Chicken Souvlaki Good
- Cons: tzatziki
Homey, excellent food, service

This is a charming place with blue gingham checked table cloths, cherry-wood bar, and I feel as if I'm visiting some place in Europe. The food is excellent (and I'm adding the rating from my boyfriend who does eat meat; I'm vegetarian,) fresh, tasty, simple, unpretentious and satisfying in every way. Portions are generous but not super-sized. Olive oil that you can use with your pita or meal is really delish! I love their lentil soup and their very decadent vegetarian moussaka (the sauce is really rich). All of their salads are great and I also like their espresso, capucino (iced) and the lovely Greek white wine. Waiters are warm but not overbearing. I go alone for lunch later in the afternoon when it is quiet and we like to banter back and forth. There are a bunch of regulars that come in which add to the atmosphere of a homey, neighborhood place. The only con was with the fried cheese platter which was too salty and oily.
- Pros: Food is fresh and tasty
- Cons: a few dishes might be too salty or oily
Not that great second time around
by robomanic23
Went to Greek Kitchen for 2nd time but for dinner (first time was for lunch during week). Not that great (though it was excellent the first time around). Ordered everything I had ordered before- greek salad and cod fish appetizer. A friend ordered a simple baked or fried fish dish which tasted like basement. i think I'll go back but only for lunch. It's a cute place and service is pretty good.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere, overall decent service
- Cons: Inconsistent quality of food
Great local spot worth traveling for
by willis69
Went last night and ate a bunch of appetizers. All very tasty and fresh fresh fresh, the room is casual, the prices reasonable, the service attentive and the thought that went thru my head was "I really don't need to go to Astoria anymore." It's a nice breezy place and I'm looking forward to going back and trying many of the other dishes. The other thought I had in leaving was it's a fun place for groups if you're looking for a fun casual inexpensive spot that can accomodate big groups(8-14), even possibly at the last minute.
