A fervid bar scene for up-and-coming suits sweetens the deal with exceptional American food.. The Scene
The dining room could double as an airplane hangar, with its sky-high arched ceiling, bright ocher deco chandeliers, constant din and endless traffic. At 5pm on weekdays, when the quittin' whistle blows in the glass towers of Sixth Avenue, there's a stampede of young execs to the large circular bar for chardonnay and courtship.

The Food
The menu is much more sophisticated than the setting suggests. Chef Bill Telepan's inventive and homey American fare gets a boost from his inventive accents. Crisply charred quail perches over salty house-cured ham, along with a sweetish squash puree. Perfectly cooked cod is ringed by smooth brandade (a puree of salt cod, olive oil and garlic), along with toasty brandade fritters. Other winners include the tender venison with dried cherries and a side of terrific blue-corn grits, and the aged rib-eye with a heady bone-marrow and oxtail glaze.

Good Stuff. My wife and I went to Judson Grill a day or two ago and we had a great time. The service was great and we really enjoyed the food. Whoever the chef is...he/she knows what to do in the kitchen. It really a cool place.

Restaurant Week disappointment. Although the service here was excellent, the way they handled the Restaurant Week menu wasn't. The items available were not from the regular menu, giving them a way to downsize the portions. My husband's beet salad was 3 inches in diameter, consumed in a few bites, and tasted like canned beets. His arctic char was ok but also a petite portion that looked lost on the plate. My veal, though tasty, was tough - definitely not high quality meat. The desserts, however. were excellent (though also modest in size), as was my tuna tartare.

Restaurants that choose to participate in Restaurant Week should not insult the customers that take advantage of the price fixed menu. If they can't serve the same quality of food and reasonable portions that are served to other guests, then they should not participate at all.

My all time favorite. I've been going to JUdson Grill for nearly 8 years, and I never grow tired of it. From the smooth, professional service to the soaring, flower-festooned space to Bill Telepan's delectable dishes, everything is pitch-perfect. Yes, it's an expense-account-type place, but I have NEVER had a bad meal here, and many truly great ones. I've paid considerably more at more "traditional" haunts like Daniel and La Caravelle--and honestly felt gypped: the food at JUdson is infinitely more memorable, more savory, and less fussy. Its midtown location unfortunately attracts a few bewildered-looking tourists in jeans and polo shirts at pre-theater dinner time--the one jarring note in an otherwise seamless symphony of flavors, atmosphere and service.

top rated theatre district dining. Gorgeous interior, superb service and food - I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a quality in a theatre disctrict.

Spectacular. The cavernous, beautiful dining room, excellent food, and top-notch service all add up to the best place to get dinner in the theater district -- if not the whole city.
