The heart of '21' is the legendary Bar Room: the watering hole of celebrities, captains of industry, and world leaders (almost every U.S. President since FDR has eaten at '21' with the lone exception of George W. Bush). The decor sets the stage for revelry here, which has been seen on-screen more than any other NYC eatery. As Alex Ward of The New York Times described it, "the decor is pure fun, the service first-rate..."
The well-reviewed American fare is deftly executed and the tasting menu, with or without wine-pairings, is a true value.

A clubby lair for corporate kings and media celebs, this expensive former speakeasy hasn't been altered since the La Guardia administration--oak bar, red-leather banquettes, neighborly tables and a curious collection of model trucks and airplanes dangling overhead. Old-school waiters in crisp white jackets anticipate every need, as does the unpretentious sommelier who oversees one of the city's great wine cellars. As for the food, it is what it is: some of the most popular dishes have been on the menu forever, such as the exceptional Caesar salad, steak tartare and bouillabaisse. You won't find a better grilled Dover sole anywhere, and game (get the mixed grill) and layered, lusty sauces are other house specialties. But this is 21. You're not here to experience the vanguard of haute cuisine.

A few of my girlfriends and I went to 21 for a friend's 21st birthday. When we got there, everything was all set for us. They food was fantastic, I had the burger to see if all the hype was true and it was delicious. My friend had an amazing time and she enjoyed her dessert. The service was friendly and for the whole experience, the price really was not bad. Thanks for a good time!

From reading all the reviews it seems obvious a lot of the five star reviews are from people associated with the restaurant...Here are a couple things to point out about 21 club....1) there is a lot of history here and the decorations are interesting/original 2) 20% of the staff is incredibly polite (the men by the entrance and barkeep mostly) meanwhile the rest of the staff seems annoyed by your existence 3) during restaurant week, the restaurant makes a clear statement by its lack of quality in food and service that they do not want your cheap business 4) during regular business days expect to pay at least $400 for a decent dinner per person, however, do not expect for them to be overly polite.... This is my first review on Citysearch and I really did go out of my way here so other's do not make the same mistake I did. Save your cash and go someplace where you will feel more welcome.

What a fun experience it was here. Good food, great wine, nice conversation. It's family style, so we had a little seafood, shrimp, short ribs (my favorite). And the wine was excellent! The service was very attentive; they noticed details and took care of things. I'd say they discretely hovered.
