not what it used to be....

I had taken colleagues to business lunches at Christer's in the summer of 2000, and it was wonderful. I went there with my wife last night for the first time since 2000, however, and was very disappointed. The salmon and artic char were fine, as was the service. The prices, however, were obscene for the portions provided, and the food, though good, was not interesting. Christer's used to be a great place -- now it's just another theatre district waste of money.

We went back to this wonderful restaurant for our first anniversary. We LOVE their baked salmon on oak board. It was juicy, fresh, soft, melt right in your month. That was one of our dream food. However, we were pretty disappointed this time. The salmon was definitely overcooked, dry, and a little plain. I later learned that they changed to a new chef. Well, the service is still very nice, dessert is great, but salmon is not the same anymore....

This is by far one of the best desserts that I've had in NY - and I don't even like apples. Service is not so great (I went for lunch...not sure about dinner service) but the food makes up for it. Great place to go have a great, private lunch.
