Tips for Carolines On Broadway

not worth the "two drink minimum!". So a group of us went there with ALREADY PURCHASED TICKETS and still had to STAND ON LINE IN 30 DEGREE WEATHER for about 45 MINUTES!!! before they even let us in, they never asked us if we already had tickets just shoved all of us about 250 in a room made for 200 tops ( estimated, not exact numbers). a table for 2 was made to accommodate 4, which SUCKED! DRINKS TOOK FOREVER!!, our "server" had no idea how to charge us and double charged us then credited us so many times that we we almost unable to go out the rest of the night because our card were cut off! Comedians were good.

Breakout Artist Comedy Series. Loved the whole experience at Caroline's Comedy club. I've been a few times and enjoyed this last visit most. The comedians were all hysterical and it was the best of the Breakout Artist series. It was August 24th and each comedian was as funny if not funnier than the last and than we were treated to a wonderful headline performance by Veronica Mosey. Just a lot of laughs and are large group were thrilled we went.

Really fun night out!!!. I have been to Carolines four times and I keep coming back for more. When you are there, you get the sense that Carolines is the cream of the crop in the world of NYC comedy clubs. My boyfriend and I ate dinner in the lounge, and then the hostess showed us to our seats. We could see the comics perfectly. The only downside was that the drinks were a bit pricey, but it was nice to sip a cocktail while watching the show. Everyone around us just seemed to be having a great time, and we were too! I have recommended the club to a bunch of my friends and they have all loved it as well. It is an authentic NYC comedy experience that no one should miss out on!

Best place for big-name comedy. You know those people who stop you in the street to ask, "Do you like comedy?" They don't come from this club. Carolines has the longest history in the city, and uses its friendships with comics rather than street barkers to fill its showroom. I've been to three shows here, and they usually have a good mix of New Yorkers, bridge and tunnelers, and tourists.

Heads up: There's a two drink minimum here, which is common for clubs in the city. If you're going to get hit with a charge though, at least they have a full bar!

NOT Recommended - better deals at other clubs. First time back at Caroline's in 3 years tonight, to see John Mulaney, and wow, have things gone downhill.

1) We booked a dinner reservation and had a personal pizza, a hamburger, two appetizers, dessert, and 4 sodas. Came to $85 - high, but not ridiculous for New York. The food, however, was horrible. The pizza was undercooked (sent back / came back in same state), the dessert (a banana split) was flavorless (like the ice cream had gone stale), and the hamburger was a hockey puck. Essentially, we paid $85 for our appetizers and 4 sodas. Oh well, onto the show

2) Bad vibes from the start - Carolines is is cramped (always was), but now, is kept ridiculously hot. It felt about 77 degrees inside - and the room was only at 3/4 capacity.

3) The server staff was also ridiculously intrusive. At other comedy clubs, they look for breaks between sets or in the material. Here, our server started discussion with us right in the middle of a bit.

4) Finally, and worst: The show cover charges are EXTREME. My wife and I had the 4 drink minimum - 2 coffees, 2 sodas. The bill? $72! When we asked the server for an itemized bill, she told us the register 'didn't print those'. When we asked if we'd been charged for the souvenir glasses, she said 'no, they don't have those anymore' (though they're offered for sale on the menu). We asked to speak to a manager - 'none is available'. So, not wanting to spend our lives there, we paid and left.

In short, with dinner, the cover charges, and the show tickets ($54) - we paid around $211 - for about 1.5 hours of comedy, watery non-alcoholic drinks, and bad food. Ripoff. We wont be going back - ever.

Great comedians, but eat before you arrive. I have to start with the quality of the comedians. Caroline's consistently works to bring on good headliners, the mc's (like Hadiyah Robinson) are funny and keep the show moving, and they pair good up & coming comics to keep the show going.

The food isn't anything special, but it's standard bar fare.

The drink selection is pretty broad. The prices aren't terrible, but it's not cheap.

I had tickets in advance, but I imagine going without pre-bought tickets would not be a fun experience.

I didnt find the service particularly outstanding, but the servers do have a monumental task ahead of them given how many tables they handle.

I'd suggest asking for your check early so you dont have to wait with all the other tables at the last second (or bring cash).

David The Voice Stein and Jimmy Hammer Rocked. It was very nice even though a tad expensive. Loved the comedians especially David "The Voice" Stein and Jimmy Hammer. They Rocked!

shame on your carolines. we stood in line for an 1and 1/2 for the 12:30 show to see paul mooney. They then turned the outside lights off on a sizeable line of people, after the doorman joked with us for 20 minutes about how we would get in , in a few minutes. The couple in front of us had been waiting since 10:30 . They were sent away and told to come back at 12:00. The couple behind us had a reservation. Needless to say none of us got in. I understand that clubs get crowed and shows sell out. However one should be decent enough to come outside and tell the people on line, rather than just turning off the outdoor lights. I T t was only after we got off line and asked that we were told the show was sold out. This was my first time coming to carolines, and with such horrible customer service. I doubt that I will ever return. I would recommend attending comix instead, I've been to that comedy club, and they treat customers alot better.

Talent great, service terrible. I went there to see D'Vora Najee and some other new talent--they were all great, and worth the price. But the service was terrible. We didn't get a first drink until half-way through the show. There seemed to be a wait staff of 3 for a packed house. They weren't serving food yet and we were starving. But the show was first rate. I'd go again. It probably helps to be among the first seated.

horrible staff. For a place that upholds a two drink minimum, you would think that the waiter would have been more attentive. He got us one drink and then disappeared! By the time I could wave him over to order a second drink, the show was almost over! Then my friends and I had to gulp down the drinks and get out so they could seat for the next show.
