Editorial Review for Drama Bookshop – by Mina Hochberg

The Scene
Auditioning actors and theater-loving tourists will find something useful at this premier vendor of dramatic texts. The bi-level store offers a comprehensive selection of all performing arts books: acting manuals, plays (sorted by playwright, title and target audience), theater histories, musical libretti, design surveys, improv guides, etc.

The Goods
Many struggling New York actors already know about this gem, while more and more tourists and other theater-goers are becoming aware of it. The knowledgeable staff consists mostly of actors and drama school graduates. On the second floor is a reading area that overlooks the first floor and conveniently resembles a stage decorated with various period furniture pieces--a good place for actors to quietly rehearse their Oscar Wilde monologues.

....this is one of your only choices for places to buy it. large selection, and yes, an overburdened staff. wish there were more places to buy the books and plays i want, but this is it. a solid -and apparently the only- option.

This specialized store is primarily for budding theatrical types. It's so nice to have a place that stocks almost every play imaginable. The staff is helpful though oftern overburdened
